Hey teamliquid, I'm gonna be giving a speech on a career possibility in the professional gaming industry for my speech class, and I was wondering if you guys could help me out any.
I already have some good material and probably enough to do my speech, but I kinda wanted to make this one good, so I'm turning to you guys to see if you have any ideas that I hadn't thought yet or credible sources about ESPORTS that I haven't been able to find.
Finding many credible sources has been a bit of a challenge as I haven't been able to find too much of anything outside of some very excellent forum posts that deal with Esports and its inevitable growth.
I've already seen this thread http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=107388 and that might end up being enough, but I was hoping to get more statisctics on SC2 as an esport, though I will be referring to BW's success in Korea as a model for future Esports success in the US.
If this comes off as another homework thread I'm really sorry and you can totally disregard this blog, but I promise I'm not looking to have the work be done for me, I'm just seeing if you guys could point me in another direction, and if you have any ideas that I might be able to do some research on and incorporate into my speech. Thank you very much for helping!
Check out a small video made by Razer about WeMadeFOX. IT can be found in 4 parts on youtube. It may have some stuff that can help out, at the least you can cite it as a source.
Watch the national geographic WCG documentary and the nal_rA documentary on youtube. You might want to ask questions to guys like Jinro, HuK, Tyler, Rekrul, Nazgul, or anyone who is currently or used to be involved in the proscene. It might be difficult to get a ton of real number figures though.
I'd spin the speech into being more about why esports exploded in Korea and how it's growing internationally with things like the GSL and MLG. How tv networks like G4 cover tournaments such as EVO (they used to cover some MLG stuff, dunno if they still do) and what gamers/people can do to help esports grow or basically why they should become interested even if they aren't gamers (the same way people who don't play basketball can still care about the NBA).
How much time do you have to give your speech? I ask because I've done this before with both small and large amounts of time and I've found that the content of the speech really depends on the amount of time you are given.
