I decided to update the Anahn Leviathan-class battlecruiser I started in 2010. I had a fairly detailed blog for the project written out here a while ago but then firefox ate it and I became extremely cross. So, this is just going to be a bunch of images detailing the update process a bit.
This is the model as it was in early 2010, when I was still modding Sins of a Solar Empire. In theme with the old model I decided to adhere to the sins limits. After getting the model mostly finished I decided I wasn't going to touch the game again, though. But I haven't worked on it since then.
The subjects of my updates were mostly the turrets, underside, rear, and "bridge" section. I had a ton of lore and stuff from my novel for this ship/the Anahn written out, but it's gone now, and I don't feel like rewriting it at this time. So, here's the WIP images in chronological order.
The original turrets are ones I remodeled using Axel's turrets as a basis. Axel's turrets were built for Homeworld 2 mods, and were massively broken from whatever happened to them before I downloaded them. Their edgeflow was completely butchered. I wanted to take this model as far away from Homeworld as possible.
The model ended up at around 46k quads. That's fairly high, but reasonably optimized. It comes to around 90k triangles which is perfectly suitable for an in-game environment such as Starcraft 2 or any given shooter. However, the model remains largely incomplete. I'm not happy with the engine section or the tier 2 rear upper rise. I'm also not very happy with the smaller side guns on the rear lip. I'm not skilled enough to know where to go with these, though.
I considered trying to mod sins again but decided against it. The enormous limitations of the game holds ships like this one back far too much. There is simply no good RTS' to mod out there, much less space RTS'.
There needs to be a Homeworld 3. Not made by Relic, or Blizzard, but by someone who actually knows what modding is and how to support it. A man can dream, I guess.

Im sure the recoil, if all the 90201786423 guns there were fired simultaneously, would cause the ship to implode irl... But really nice effort.

There's no "lasers" in the world, they're mostly railguns and thermal lance weaponry. Some subspace torpedo launchers and such as well.

In the world I mean in Throne of Armageddon, my novel/universe, where the ship originates from. Psionic storms do exist in that world, though.
Of course psionics on the level of the Protoss can't compete with the world's players, but...

I think sob3k is onto something here. This project can be exactly what you are looking for. I think visually it's rather very well done but that repeated sound in their music choice is what turned me off. Only lasted till 3 minute mark just because of that annoying sound. But great movie and effort nevertheless.

People have asked me about infinity and no, as I always say, I don't want to do work for other people's projects. The engine itself would apparently need considerable hand work to fit what I was hoping to achieve mod-wise (I asked on their forum a time ago about size limits and such) as well. Maybe that will change, maybe not... but I always have and forever will work for myself.
Every now and then I take some small voice acting requests from people I know but that is all.
I've been giving thought about that freespace 2 open source project but, again, I'm not a programmer.

i was thinking of this precisely! why dont they ever get used in battle? bc should shoot from more than 1 gun, eh. maybe they are for donglings? xD

Amazing work done, I dont like Levaitian class tough. . Ohwell its probably because i played too much starcraft II to not think of it is a big meatsack that pops the moment 20 battlecruisers surround it.

A single round from the smallest point defense on this ship would gut (if not completely vaporize) 20 terran BC's in a row and keep going, if it consolidates you any.
