If the thread was meant to be "lets rattle off a list of things TL did to affect esports" then it should've said that, or at the very least proposed the question of "what else has TL done [to affect esports]". I've got good odds people didn't even recognize that the underlined text were links and not just section headings. You know, on second thought, I think you've got a point. But if a person read (the rest of) the thread before posting, the string of warnings and bans probably should probably alert him or her that something's up.

I thought so at first too, but some of the responses are just so far off that they deserve the warning. Take the first response for example. The poster clearly didn't read the OP at all - just a few key words. The OP clearly isn't about whether the Razer gear is good or not. It's about how cool it is that TL influenced the gear.

The warnings didn't exist when Jibba decided to warn or ban a page and a half. It should tell you something when every single reply is talking about something different than you expect it to (which is that the topic is not about what you think it is).

In the end though, I understand their concern and why they feel they should do it. We should all be willing to pay GOM for their service. A lot of us do, but a lot of people don't. It is not like it is expensive people. I just liked the TL made it simple to have it on while I do my work.

No one got banned before I posted and reading the first page of posts, it's incredibly clear that people didn't read the OP at all. They read 'APM Lighting' and jumped at the chance to write about Razer. Half of them later admitted as much. 2/3 of the OP is about the BWCharts stuff. That's also precisely why I started with warnings. Maybe one or two people got caught in the crowd with everyone else, but the rest blatantly disregarded the OP. Beyond that, people should be reading more than just the OP before posting. I read that ad with a bit of "nostalgie" going back 7 years in the past, right here, on TeamLiquid.net where APM was invented: That's probably the key line where your brain should kick in, if you're actually reading the entire thing. There's no reason to think the OP is about the Razer stuff after reading that line.Think about the two different ways to approach that OP. If you read it as it's intended, it makes perfect sense. Short intro about the products, leading into a statement about TL and a link for where the term APM came from, and a final salutation of TL. If you read it as if those are headers/questions (and not links), then the entire thing makes no sense. This is what you'd be reading: I read that ad with a bit of "nostalgie" going back 7 years in the past, right here, on TeamLiquid.net where APM was invented: Who invented APM? Maybe some of you did not know about TL back then, but yes, this is the kind of impact that the TL community has on the world of eSports. It got Blizzard to add APM inside SC 2 and Razer inside its devices. Not bad. A round for TL Now some people were confused, but if you're confused your first reaction should not be to post that you're confused. It should be to read further and investigate.

This isn't like season 1 when their streams were down to 75% of viewers. Now everyone can get on. HQ stream has been unwatchable for most of S2 and S3 due to lag for me, in fact anyone in Australia or certain parts of Europe will probably tell you the same. I pay for the service because I like the VODs, however I watch a restream of the HQ instead of the LQ stream since I've paid for HQ anyway and I feel I should be entitled to it.

In this case, the OP is kinda oddly worded. It opens by focusing on how Razer has this new APM lighting technology, then it talks much about how APM got its hold here on TL. It's not immediately obvious what the OP intends the discussion to be about, based on the OP text alone. When people write, they usually put the main topic in front, and when they read, they interpret the opening as a summary of sorts. That, I think, is why so many posters got confused and started talking about Razer's lighting technology. @ "the key line where your brain should kick in" If there is a key line in the middle where you must shift your view of the central topic of the post, then it's a badly written post. I still think the warns and bans have justification, though, since the title is "who 'invented' APM." EDIT: if below poster is correct, then I disagree with the warns/bans and I can clearly see where Craton is coming from.

That's why tl;dr exists, that's why the first paragraph of a news story is all you really need to read (at least, for well written stories). I'm fairly certain the title was changed by a mod somewhere around page 4 or 5 to deal with said confusion as I seem to remember it being titled something else.

This is exactly my point. His post without mentioning the Razor product would be without substance, or by the way you called it, "makes no sense". Then it is safe to infer that mentioning the Razor product is an integral part of his post. In that regard, then, I don't see what is wrong with talking about the Razor product. I felt it was kind of important. A lot of other people did, as well - that's why they talked about it. Just my 2 cents.
