Imagine you wake up in your apartment, you're drenched in sweat. It's the blackest of nights when a shrill scream pierces the air. You groggily open a window and watch, horrified, a woman be torn to pieces. As your sense wake up to the outside world you notice the city is in chaos. Buildings are burning, car alarms blaring, sirens screaming and through the streets, the hordes of the living dead walk the earth, looking for fresh meat!
So, what do you do? explain your adventure in this zombie wasteland! RULE 1: REALISM, no kamehameha-ing the zombies cuz you woke as Goku
RULE 2:don't exagerrate your real life position, if you don't have a gun at home, then you can't say you'll pull out your remington, find a makeshift weapon and try and get a gun.
RULE 3: zombies only died by removing the head, destroying the brain or destroying the spine (that sends brain's messages) ie: head cut off, hammer time on the neck with a sledge hammer or bullet between the eyes.
RULE 4: Be creative. Don't just post 'i'll take my dad's 9mm and lock the doors until the army comes. Assume you're alone in the world (though you may not be/probably are not)
RULE 5: Have fun!
I will post my Zombie story once there are a few replies since the OP feels cluttered already ^^
EDIT: The Zombies are slow, but en masse, they're blind but have very reactive hearing. They don't regenerate at all cuz they're DEAD. they're not stronger than a normal human but have 0 inhibition so will not care if they get stabbed or shit like that. Obviously they feel no pain and they can smell fresh flesh from a close distance so being completely still next to a zombie will not work, but of course that is only a template you can use. You can use ANY zombies in your zombie plan, that's up to you. If you need a template, here it is

Funny story since I have to wait for some images to receive for my work (lol waiting on model pictures) I guess I'll do this game.
If some sort of zombi apocalypse were happening right now at work I'd do the following.
- Get some weapon (since I don't have a weapon) to defend myself with. - Find some capable people who would survive in this new world and form a group. - Do not go outside yet since zombies will be swarming outside. - Wait till I have found some way to know where zombies are most likely to be and avoid them. - Not calling any family since I will assume they're dead so it's all myself for now. - Get some food supply to survive the upcoming days/weeks/months/years. - Get to some supermarket for more stuff I might need to survive. - Go to a safe place like in all zombie apocalypse movies will probably be on an island like UK.

The UK is also swarmed (60 million ppl) and you don't know if there are survivors. In your blog you said employees are at the companies that are in the same building where you work, there would be zombies inside the building, how do you deal with that?
Finding a weapon is imperative, in an office i'd say that big slicing thing that if your rip off the blade it becomes like a sword (like in Operation: Endgame) this thing

Edit:
Forgot there's a big kitches at the ground floor so I can get knifes at least to defend myself with.
Also get a fast and strong car to drive outside to go wherever I want to. The big problem here is I'm in a very crowded place in the city.... Nope, I don't think that's a DQ situation for you. It's "whatever weapons are at hand or easily accessible". Until you can get there, what you do have will have to do.

No. In your area the zombies can wield and use the "military equipment" they find, just like you.

absolutely not, you just can't exagerrate. if a suburban kid says hes got an M4 in his room, that's disqualified. But if you live on a military base and ur able to go to the armory and can get an M4 then that's fine

Not to sound like Carl Sagan or anything but the OP did not mention anything at all about the zombies. How does the virus you are imagining spread? Do you have to get bit and your flesh be pierced by their saliva, is a tear of condensed blood sufficient to infect you a la 28 days later, does the blood of the dead somehow turn corrosive? Does the virus symptoms start with gangrene, and can it last for a few days in the event of a smaller infection? Could a small infection on one individual actually be cured, maybe even without amputation? Or does the virus spread by air, gradually corrupting anyone in zombie-filled territory, and could unintended virus-bombs be set off by burning corpses of the infected?
What senses are the undead left with, if the eyes become opaque they are effectively blind and would have to rely on their tactile sense or on their hearing to discern living beings around them. Do the zombies only eat humans or do they feed on critters aswell? Are they only feeding on carrions or are they not devouring some of their victims to let them join their ranks? Do they have some sort of hivemind mentality or do they only care for themselves? Are they able to produce noises, do they have any memories of their previous life? And if they do can they NOT produce any noises, and therefore hide volountarily or not? If they do not detect body heat we can make distracting actions by just banging trash cans and hoping that they will follow them instead. Can they still use their limbs and actually stand? Are they able to manipulate door knobs or handles? Are they even able to go up stairs or being blind do they just fall on their knees and try to crawl their way up? What would lead them say across a field if they don't feel or smell anything there? Are they going to hivemind through a barricade or will some of them search for a backdoor? And if they do what made them so special to turn from mindless undead ravenous monstrosities to sneaky rogues? Do the fuckers regenerate or have harder/softer body/bone tissues? How does water affect them at long terms? Can they run? (If they can count me out of this, I'll just stop watching and rate it 1/5).
How spread is the infection? Am I going to have power for 2 more days, a week or did the outbreak somehow start at the nearest power plant? Same goes for the internet and telephone/mobile phone lines, and running water aswell, as for heating that's something we can deal with in other ways but depending on the season of the year different issues may emerge. I am going to guess whether our buddies survived or not it is up to us to decide, since as you may have guessed I like zombie fiction I instructed most of them on what to do under most circumstances and virus types, but you could put some lines around that.
Also where did the outbreak start? If it started inside town I will expect police road blocks, and depending on how discernable the outbreak was the infection will have spread more or less, therefore leading to some road blocks being overrun, left behind by both the living and unliving and with the spoils of the dead (in Italy basically only government agents have guns, and I don't just mean berettas, the guys in front of police stations and municipal buildings sport HK mp5s aswell).
Also does the outbreak start/do we notice it in the morning? I mostly work at nights so I may be outside instead of sleeping at home.
Anyways for anyone interested just get a copy of All Flesh Must Be Eaten, it's the zombie-based pnp rpg, for any pnp gamers who don't know much about it it's basically a modern tech-low melee WoD without the faggotry, which doesn't require miniatures either.

The OP said something about realism ...
You can not cut off a human head with that thing or a kitchen knife easily. It would take some time to saw through all the muscles and bones. But time is something you don't have when faced with a zombie.
Question to the OP, what kind of zombies are we talking about here?

I've actually got a pretty good strategy planned out for this. First, I get all of my family in our car, bringing the family shotgun with us to clear out any zombies in our way. We head straight for the Willamette River and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. Once there, we commandeer the old diesel submarine currently on display. We then pilot it up the Willamette, down the Columbia, and into the Pacific Ocean. From that point, we hug the coast, headed to whichever hemisphere it's currently closest to summer. Our goal is to hit the arctic circle during summer, allowing near constant daylight to keep the zombies away from our camp (I'm assuming these zombies, like most zombies, dislike sunlight). We use this time to stockpile supplies for the fall, when we'll again make the trip to the opposite hemisphere. This way, we maximize our #1 asset, sunlight, through our travel patterns.
Possible issues: -No idea if the submarine is in working condition. -No idea how to work a submarine. -How do I get fuel for the submarine?
Benefits: -Maximizes sunlight -Travel the world -Submarines are cool
If the submarine doesn't work, I suppose I could just grab a sail boat from the marina, but that's much less fun.
Edit: I've also realized that somewhere in the same area there may be a zombie Incontrol. If I see any zombies that look that they could bench press remotely near 650lbs., I'll probably just start running and screaming like a little girl.

Are the zombies active during daytime or only at night? Are they fast like in 28 Days Later or slow like in most other movies? Do water and electricity work as normal or is the infrastructure ruined?
Well I'd start off breaking into my neighbor's house. His father is a hunter and should have a shotgun. I'd then grab a toolbox, pack my bags, and take the car to drive to town. There's a barracks which should have plenty of automatic weapons and ammunition. I'd probably also get other military equipment like knives, clothing and sleeping bags. It's high quality stuff after all. Maybe they also have a nice Jeep with a mounted machine gun or something like that. I'd then drive around in search of a house which fulfills the following criteria: - barred windows - a sturdy door which I can open using my tools without permanently destroying the lock - solar power on the roof - a large garden around it so I see what's going on around the house I'd start my new life from there. There's plenty of water and farmland in my area, so starving shouldn't be a problem. Of course there are also supermarkets, gas stations, hardware shops etc. to stock up at. The main problem after that is probably figuring out how to do stuff, build or repair items etc. The Internet is probably not available, and information search in a library is much harder. If the zombies don't get me, I'd probably die from disease or infection, since medical help is nowhere to be found and even by reading books there's bound to be a problem sometime I can't fix myself.

I need some more info about the zombies to make my decisions. How fast are they? How strong are they? How good are their movements, can they climb fences? How do the zombies detect you, by sight, smell or hearing? How competent are they with weapons, can they use them or do they just bite?
Straight off the bat I know I'd be alright considering my brothers gun collection, I'd probably find out what situation he is in, team up with him and go from there. At my house theres a large vegtable garden and chickens so I'd have enough fresh food to last me forever if we stayed at my house. I always thought that there'd be somewhere in the community where people were gathering in order to have a better chance of surviving or the army would kick in and go round dropping zombies. So three options would be army base where survivors are gathering, area near our house that people are gathering to protect one another or stick at home and build some defences like a fence etc
Aww i read the poll wrong, i saw it as would you want to be a zombie or yourself so i voted no that'd be a terrible thing as i dont want to be a zombie

If youre going for realism then I`d just wait for the tanks to start driving around squishing zombies while I sit at home and enjoy all the food I bought at the local store the second I received any news about a zombie acopalypse. Alternatively I`d travel to the nearest military facility and commandeer a tank myself. Seems like the only proper way to travel in zombie acopalypsia. At that point I`d mostly be relaxing while drinking champagne and smoking cigars while talking to myself within my iron coffin

I live in Beijing with a huge ass population density and guns (and even large knives) are fucking illegal here! I'm screwed.
Best plan I can figure is this: Pack a bag of food and water. Make molotov cocktails with bottles in my house, take the biggest knives in the cabinet. Take my family's car (assuming I am alone) and attempt to drive out of the city. Head for the coast, foraging along the way.
Find a boat and sail it out to sea. Survive off of fish, come back every so often to land in order to forage.

Getting Started
So I would wake up, I live in an Apartment building which has 6 units. I guess I would make sure the door is secured once I notice that the infection is happening and while I plan my next move. I'm going to assume my fiancee is with me. We would probably start by putting our uniforms on since it offers some protection against broken glass, etc. I would pack some supplies like food and whatever else I may need. My phone is usually always charged so I would take that with me and make an attempt to contact family to ensure they are barricaded as well. I know I would need a weapon, something that I can defend us with. I have a baseball bat under the bed, that will do. Once the bag is packed and I have the essentials, toilet paper, first aid supplies, food, flashlights, cellphone chargers. I am going to assume that we have power since the Zombies wouldn't really know how to turn off the lights. Oh, I would also pack some extra clothes and cleaning products, I hate feeling dirty.
Time To Leave The Apartment
I would scan the parking lot from the window that overlooks it in our apartment. We are on the 3rd floor, two units per floor. I would remove whatever barricade from the door once I have listened to see if I could hear anything outside. I would open the door and we would quietly proceed down to the parking lot. Our spots are pretty close to the door. Now it's time to decide, the Honda or the Pontiac. I think I would go with the Honda, its older and seems more solid. Plus it's a four-door and easier to hold stuff. I would look for means of better transportation. I would head to fleet center and take an Ambulance. It's only right, considering I drive one for a living... The fleet center is just up the road, not to far of a jaunt at all. I would do this as quickly as possible.
Supplies
We may be on the road for awhile, so we would need more supplies. I would head to the nearest Grocery store. I would enter with caution since there may be people or zombies attracted to that location already. I would devise a plan to know what kind of food I am after once I enter the building, as so that I am not aimlessly walking around. I would grab a card and go for that food. Should I come upon a Zombie I would beat them in the head with the baseball bat, if there are more than one or two zombies together I would avoid them or evacuate immediately. I'm going to say I got the food I went in to get, I live in a pretty rural place where there isn't many people around grocery stores, etc at night. Once I bring the supplies back out to the ambulance, I'd double check inside to make sure that there were not any unexpected visitors. I would load the groceries into the various cabinets in the back of the Ambulance, like a mini-rv on wheels with food. Next is getting a better weapon..
Upgrading
Now it's time to get a better weapon, I would head to the local sporting goods store. I would have to make sure that other people didn't have the same idea, I don't want to get shot by some retard as I'm trying to get a gun. I'd examine the exterior of the building to make sure it look'd safe. I would go inside/break in with my flashlight, loudly telling anyone who may be inside "I am a human, I have not been bitten". I would look for two or three rifles and a few shotguns. I would take as many bullets and shells as I could. I would take some knives and binoculars, probably some camo and any protective vests that they may have. I would head back out to the Ambulance, place the guns and ammo into the squad bench keeping one with me and one with my fiance, shotguns of course. I would have grabbed some Glocks while we were in there, yes glocks specifically. We would then need to figure out what our plan is, probably head somewhere rural to find family. Getting from place to place should be easy and any zombies on the way can easily be crushed with a 5-ton Ambulance. So we're headed to my familys house..
The Drive
My family lives three hours away, the road is a semi-highway. I would begin to drive there with my fiancee, I would avoid anyone on the way, zombies or not. Aside from two small communities along the way, the drive should be fairly straight forward. Once I reached my family's city, we have to go along the cusp of the city limits to get to their house. I would take this opportunity, before I got into town, to fuel up at a smaller gas station along the way. Less chance that there will be zombies. Once I reach our destination I would examine the house, make necessary changes to ensure it's security and associate with family, make sure that nobody has been bit, if they have they need to go. I would lock the Ambulance, taking supplies inside with me. My fiancee and I have made it, we would probably remain with my family until we could devise a plan, something more permanent. I'm going to think what that is right now and come back to this..
The Next Move....
The most critical thing that I would have to think about is that the power will probably go out soon due to nobody looking after the grid, or explosions (which seem to happen a lot when zombies are around) would take the power out. Food, I would have wanted to make sure I grabbed as much food as I could have possibly taken to survive a week or more on, once I got to my family's I could salvage whatever they have/had in the house. I would make sure to take candles and matches, lots of them, a long with tools and possibly some 2x4's if there were any and head towards a camp we have way out of town into the woods. I think in this situation, getting away from areas with any population is key, the more secluded you are, the better chance you have. I would arm the members of my family capable with the weapons I've obtained from the Sporting Goods store and head out in the Ambulance and their Truck.
The Drive
The drive to the camp wouldn't take all that long, it is probably roughly 45 minutes but pretty much straight into the woods. The odd Zombie may be around but should be taken care of easily without risking too much. We all know Zombies are pretty fucking hard to kill, but they are not invulnerable to time, weather and other hazards. I expect the drive to the camp to be relatively straight forward, potentially meeting maybe a handful of zombies on the drive there, but once in the more wooded areas, I don't foresee any zombies being around. Once at the camp I would use the "Scene Lights" or Flood Lights to light the area and see if anything is up, if not I would proceed to get out and approach the camp, doing a full sweep inside to make sure there are no suprises. Once its clear everyone would get inside and begin to bring all the supplies in as quickly as possible.
Fortifying
Now barricading up and never moving isn't a great thing in this situation, however, the longer you can wait before needing to get anywhere for more supplies, the more the chance that decay and other factors have killed off at least a few of the zombies. A few zombies less makes the job a little bit easier. I predict, my fiancée and myself along with my family could hold out for about a week. Water? There is a stream that goes through the basement of the camp, its the way it was constructed. There are no windows in the basement, its solid concrete. The windows would be boarded up, tightly and securely and the door reinforced. Potentially making a way to get out onto the roof from inside should be looked at for an alternative exit or as a lookout. Regular people who came would have to be turned away, they are a hazard to the safety of us and on the rations that you are living on, I doubt that they are as well prepared and brought their own weapons and food. Let's face it, I expect any normal person I come across to be batshit insane and in their own right, only looking out for themselves. In extreme cases they would have to be shot. I'd also be sure to bring the keys in out of the vehicles so people couldn't steal our means of transportation.
Getting Supplies
As I said earlier, it's approximately 45 minutes to town, or the outskirts at least. After the initial week I would go into town and look for supplies, if there were zombies everywhere I would have to turn around and see what I could find on the stores on the outskirts. Attracting as little attention as possible is key and you do not want to be followed and lure them in your general direction. I'm thinking that by this time it would be safe to venture into some places in the city without being mobbed with a thousand zombies, none the less, I would go in with the thought that I would never want to get trapped in somewhere and not have an exit strategy. I think resupplying would be the most difficult part, since now the infection has had time to spread or die off, depending on when the area was hit and food available to the zombies and everyone is well aware of what is going on, except my cousin, who is probably still in his room playing World of WarCraft should the power permit. Shotguns are great for killing zombies, I would have taken one of those, not a rifle and with whoever came with me, they would have one as well. A rifle would be needed for those long distant shots that may be needed. Obvious vehicle choice would be the Ambulance, why? If you'd ever driven one you'd know how tough those bastards are.
The Circle
This routine would have to be kept up until a better option comes to pass. I know outlasting zombies does not seem too promising but its the only shot you got, its not like you're going to go out and wage a full blown war on them. Other scenarios may present themselves, like heading to a better location, etc. Medical attention although not being a Doctor, two Paramedics certainly have an advantage. You would also have to live strictly by a set of rules and make sure never to waiver, family is family, but zombie family is no good.

^ Beat me to it. Oh well.
I've already lived through one of these so I'll just copy down the diary I kept.
Day 1
It was a normal spring afternoon when I woke up at 4pm as usual and no one was home. I got on Starcraft 2 but I didn't want to play against the damn Terrans, so I just ended up playing the campaign until 7pm before I finally went on multiplayer. I should have suspected something was wrong when it took me forever to find a game but hey, that's what I get for playing SEA. When I eventually found an opponent he asked me why I was playing. I didn't understand the question so I acted like a smartass by asking him the same question. He replied by saying "I'm going to live out the last moments of my life playing the game I love."
I was all like "lulwut?" while I roflstomped his Zerg with a simple 4 gate. When I won (as usual) I just had to go outside to take a celebratory smoke break. Halfway through the cigarette, I heard a scream coming from the road and I saw a moderately grotesque scene where a zombie woman leaped onto an innocent school kid and tore the flesh off his face.
I say moderately because I wasn't as disgusted as I should have been. Did it surprise me? Yes. Did it shock me? No. If I was any ordinary person I probably would've fainted and been killed on the spot, but I'm not an ordinary person.
I'm a gamer.
At that moment my gamer brain gave me two options.
A. Save the kid. B. Get the fuck inside and protect yourself, the kid's as good as dead.
I say I'm a gamer and most gamers are selfish bastards, but I'm not any gamer. I'm not a cocky little 12 year old FPS gamer that mouths off at everyone through his headset. I play Starcraft and we're the most manner gamers in the world, yo.
So as much as I wanted to just run inside and hide, I had to try and save the kid. No, I'm not an idiot, I know there's a chance the kid could turn into a zombie himself. Still, I didn't even know what type of zombies they were. It might not be contagious, it might be contained, there could be a cure. I had no clue, alright?
I flicked my cigarette and quickly ran into my brother's room. I found some deodorant and silently thanked God for making my brother metrosexual. I run out onto the road, grabbed the kid and tossed him onto the side of the road. I used my lighter and the deodorant to create a small, makeshift flamethrower and burn the zombie Left 4 Dead style.
It worked. Kind of. I had to run around while spraying the zombie with fire but it eventually melted in a pretty sick way. And by sick I mean awesome. It kept squirming around on the ground but it was definitely not in any shape to move or cause any harm. I walked to the side of the road, grabbed a giant stick and beat the living(or unliving) shit out of it, just for good measure.. and fun.
I start walking back to the kid but he had already turned. Figures, how can a zombie apocalypse happen overnight without a very fast acting and contagious disease? He must've not seen me 'cause he ran in the opposite direction. No, I didn't chase him, why would I? I'm not going to risk my life to catch some random zombie. Plus, I don't think murdering a 12 year old child/zombie that I tried to save would be healthy for my mind, something I knew I would have to fight to preserve.
When I went home, everything sort of just hit me at once. You'd think you'd be prepared for a zombie apocalypse. I mean, I've played countless zombie games and I've even read a few zombie fanfics but none of them really helped me at that point. I had no idea whether or not my family was alive. I had no idea how far the zombie outbreak was spread. The only TV channel that was actually operational was airing constant reruns of Simpsons episodes. I had no phone reception, 000 wasn't working and my internet had died during the whole incident outside, great timing I know. What could I do? I did the only two things my semi-cataconic mind could think of.
Barricade the doors and windows.
Play Starcraft 2 campaign.

well, this is really hard since we don't know what kind of zombies we're up against, if it's like HotD zombies then it's easy.
Nonetheless, I'll go grab a knife, anything small but heavy and improvise a slingshot, and probably do what my parents tell me to hahahaha.

Great story. Felt like I was literally there experiencing your adventure.
