at 1909 points...
and I'm in bronze league...
A couple weeks ago I decided to pull a pennoyer and farm an icon, but unlike him I only had the patience to get the 250 win Z icon before succumbing to boredom and playing legit. I then started climbing back up the ladder, and very much to my dismay the game seems to refuse to promote me, even after a 30+ game win streak against 700+ diamond players. I've taken a couple losses now, but continue to fare quite well against 800-1000 diamond players game after game.
I know I brought this on myself but I figured some of you may find it amusing. Is there something wrong/bugged? or is this normal after intentionally tanking my account to bronze league? I've played nearly 80-90 games in my attempt to climb back up. Do I just need to lose more until I'm going 50:50? or what?
I remember reading a thread that talked about having an MMR and a sigma value that together determine the formula for promotion, so I'm guessing I need to get closer to 50% win/loss in my recent games so that my sigma value shrinks and it knows where I should be. Does that make sense?

wasnt it like -250 points for every league you move up? but you are the highest ranked bronze player
also there is a "bug" that only promotes you when you lose some games too.

Winning without any losses messes with whatever Blizzard is using for its ranking system. My guess is they implemented it to combat hackers winning every game to try and hit #1 on the ladder. You can try losing a few games, it's pretty common to get promoted after losing a random game.

Wow 30+ game win streak that's impressive, I'm not too sure about the promotion system, it's rather weird. Just keep playing I guess and you'll get promoted eventually haha.

I'm just being sarcastic, the highest diamond player is like 1880 or something, so I thought it would be a funny thread title. I'm amazed I managed to get this many points being being promoted. I'm guessing once I do get promoted its gonna shove me around the 800-1000 point mark, because I am consistently beating that level of player. Hopefully I don't end up with like nothing left points wise when it promotes me, that would be a pissoff.

It hasn't updated yet but gj. You will see me at #1 with 1878 there.

I did the EXACT same thing. Don't worry, just keep playing, you will promote straight to diamond after some more games.

lol, thats what I was thinking sometime when I went past like 1400 points. I'm starting to get worried now. I'm guessing I just need to lose more games?

I think the system has some statistical representation of your skill level, with confidence intervals and such. you spent a while convincing the system that you were a bronze leaguer, so I'm guessing it takes quite a lot of data to convince the system otherwise.

Yeah, this probably. It seems like the ladder system is hesitant to promote players winning a lot. Take for example those drop hackers that had like 50-0 were still stuck in platinum. I'm guessing you just need to play enough for the system to match you up against players that are at your level so that you start losing more frequently, and you'll go straight to diamond.

Yeah, what might be the matter is that because of your winning streaks it doesn't know what your league should be. It seems logical that if at one point you'll have won about 50% of your latest ~~ number of games the system can then decide your ranking is a good enough approximation of your skill and take another look at league placement. Assuming it works this way, of course.

why on earth would you fail placements and play tons of games where you don't get better besides b.o timings??
is the false sense of satisfaction from achievements that important?
|
Since you at at nearly 50% win lose the match making system thinks that is where you should be..
Lose placements -> Play until platinum -> Play with friends until it's nearly end of season -> Get in a diamond league with a bunch of bad players.. 900~ -> be #1. ^Self esteem++

Fun. Laddering hardcore every time you play gets old after a while. I didn't fail my placements, I actually lost ~60 games in a row in order to get down to bronze from diamond lol. It got boring really fast, but it was actually kinda fun for a while trying to win with worker rushes and cheese instead of playing a 30 minute macro game every time. Plus I like having a cool icon.

Cool portrait, he just said.

Team portraits are better than 1v1 portraits.

Cool so you only need 60 games to get all the cool portraits. Down to Bronze I go!
