I know there are countless threads about good music to listen to while playing SC2. I wanted to make one myself, but have been resigned into believing that everyone has different taste in music. Gaming music just makes it that more individual.
Anyways, I was wondering whether you guys listen to music while playing SC2. Is it bad to play music, is it a distraction? Perhaps it blocks out sounds you would otherwise hear? Or does it pump you up in incredible ways? Let me know.
P.S. Do the pros listen to music while they play?

Idra listens to his own music when he plays. I do too sometimes. Depends on if I already have it up and running.

I find that even with my own music turned on, I don't listen to it at all (since I'm too focused on the game), but for longer drab practice sessions, where a lot of the times its very mechanical having your own music can really help I guess. But I mostly only play 5-10 games at a time.

i wish my computer could handle listening to music and playing at the same time

Yeah, but like entropic said, I don't even notice that i'm listening music. I love blasting drum and bass whenever I'm playing, It helps me focus alittle

I play with SC2 muted + listen to Last.fm radio. Sure I don't have the warnings blasting in my face but my mini-map awareness has gone up a ton.

i listen to music while I practice, it makes it much easier to mass game if you can listen to some of your favorite songs while you do it. I still listen to the sc2 audio though, and I do not listen to music during tournaments because I am afraid it would prevent me from hearing nukes or something ^_^.

Different every time. Sometimes I listen to just game sounds, sometimes I have my own music playing. Basically I'll keep listening to my music if I booted SC2 up with music on.

music is great whilst gaming. i find it rather distracting when playing sc, i still listen anyway =) you always see progamers with those earphones sometimes under their headset, always makes me wonder if theyre listening to tunes

I play music along with starcraft sound effects, so while I enjoy my music, I can still hear and be aware of the shit that's happening in the game.

Trump's stream got me hooked on classical music in the background. Maybe it's placebo, but I feel more focused, and less stressed in intense situations.
|
always got music playing in the background, with or without sc2. i can't even imagine lol

I just listen to RainyMood.com now. I used to listen to some dubstep (blizzaine from newgrounds) and trance (juno reactor), maybe a little symphonic metal (avantasia, sonata arctica, etc). Now I just listen to the rain, and it feels good.

Non-practice games will be SC sounds only - everything else, my music is on.

I acctually concentrate better with my music on O.o

music is usually a distraction to me, but it makes playing 5 or more ladder games in a row more enjoyable. in war3 music was great because of the slower pacing, but if you miss one or two audio cues in sc2 due to music it can cost you many workers.
