Before you talk about the book, if you're putting spoilers, PLEASE PUT A TAG UP!
Within the fine scope of fantasy and teen literature, there is a rare scope of books that I find to truly capture a teenage experience in another world (yes, Harry Potter, that is a minor jab). Fortunately I think Hunger Games captures what that teenage experience may be--which is that care taking aspect that comes with poorer families.
The quotation "Flight is essential. But I can't let my fear show" is indicative of the whole book. Basically our protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, is in a world where different districts lend up two people (a boy and girl) and in free for all death match everyone must fight on this island. The whole thing is televised nationally for the crowds morbid amusement. Losing means death. Winning means fame, fortune, and life.
I personally enjoyed the story of Katniss Everdeen and her quest through the Games. What do you think?

My Mom wanted to read it after I did lmao She actually bought herself the 2nd book in the series the same day I checked it out of the library. I read it during last September. I fully recommend it. 2nd book spoiler: + Show Spoiler +In the 2nd book all the champions fight each other :O it makes for a really epic battle... NOW I NEED THAT 3RD BOOK NOW! Been waiting to damn long for it...

Sounds an awful lot like Battle Royale.
I'm interested on how you like the book, and how it compares to the movie, if at all.

Read hunger games because people at another forum I frequent told me to. Loved it. I have also read catching fire and and going to read mockingjay when it comes out.
I'm kind of out of it right now but I will probably make a longer post in the next day or two with my thoughts on the book.

lol its a great book, uhh it's probably best to spoiler the book for yourself before reading though, well i did anyways.
The second book kind sucks dick, but the first one was legit.

I really liked the second one.
I don't get why so many people say they didn't like it.
Catching fire spoiler below: + Show Spoiler +is it because of how wishy-washy she is about peeta/gale?
that kinda pisses me off.
I feel like i'm reading twilight sometimes.

I feel like i'm reading twilight sometimes. + Show Spoiler +it's just me, but i felt the story was like... "holy fuck the first book is great, lets write more!"
i probably just had the wrong perspective and mentality when i read the second book.
but the whole relationship thing is pretty sketch, not bad or good, kind of interesting i guess

Oh I really liked this series. The third book isn't out yet isn't it?
And yeah, for the second book I completely agree + Show Spoiler +It totally felt like they wrote a sequel just for the sake of stretching out the story.. Apart from that, it was pretty good I guess lol @ twilight comparison
Totally hate the name Katniss. Makes her sound like a bitch and it's hard to pronounce the word (yeah I like to actively read lines in my head sometimes and it's annoying, wtf Katniss).

The third book comes out like august 23rd i think.
I like most of the names she comes up with for some reason.
+ Show Spoiler +Plutarch is a pretty bad ass name if you ask me. and Enobaria sounds cool too. Both are characters from catching fire.

Catching fire spoiler: srsly, ruins the whole book, please don't read + Show Spoiler +Plutarch was the new game leader after the old one died. (was kinda big in catching fire and will almost certainly be HUGE in mockingjay.)
Enobaria was one of the tributes from one of the 'career' districts, 1 or 2 i think. Pretty sure she died.

Wow this is funny. The district of my school is forcing all the kids to read this book. It wasn't bad, but I probably won't reread it anytime soon.
