I am blown away from the big advertising campaign Blizzard has started for Sc2:
About 2 days ago i saw a banner on youtube for Sc2 probably the best advertising one can get at the internet.
And just a srcond ago i saw TV advertising (Kabel 1, Big German channel) for Starcraft 2.
Never seen anything like that for a PC game, probably i didn't realized it. Anyways i love it get the Esport spread out to the community =D.
Just wanna let u know...hf gg

Uhh did you see the ad campaigns for Halo 3 and Modern Warfare 2? The Starcraft 2 ads pale in comparison.
Edit: Even for PC, games like WoW and Dragon Age were hyped up a lot on TV
|
Yeah, it's getting pretty big now. But, I'm surprised that they start doing it on this scale a few weeks ago. Like the guy above said, the Modern Warfare 2 advertising campaign was INSANE.
|
They have had tv ad's on ESPN all day (I have seen 4 during the day today).
|
Guess in the States it is more common... I have seen ad's for concole games but none for PC game's and these ad's were not in the evening on a big station...
|
i saw the sc2 commercial again watching dyrdeks fantasy factory. thats a good age demographic to target so props to them =D
|
you never noticed all those wow ads? the ones with ozzy osbourne or mr. t?
|
Halo advertising was much wider spread. Hell even Final Fantasy advertises on cable.
|
Blizzard has dumped so much money into advertising Starcraft2. It's an amazing game as we all know ;D
|
Funny how this thread came up when I was just thinking the exact same thing. I just came back from the mall. I was blown away with the amount of posters and banners of SC2 they had around the mall. Blizzard really put in a lot of effort to advertise SC2.

This is mass advertising? The only advertising I have seen is the single add on a single basketball game.
Mass advertising is how Apple promotes their products, such as starting a viral add campaign by someone "losing" their iPhone 4.
|
The thing is...people are going to see the advertisments, then look at the game, and be like "What the hell is this shit?"
It's not being marketed as an RTS game, but instead like an epic shooter or RPG.
|
ye, I hope the scene will be huge. This is good

thats because most people don't know what an RTS is over a FPS/RPG. Advertising != actual product.

We'll see.. Might bring in some lamers to TL.net :/

TV adverts in the UK all the time. Epic.

um halo 3 and mw2 are mainly console games... and dragon age is the rare exception, WOW is a horrible example, as we all know its unique and dominates the gaming market.
theres never ever beena RTS game with this advertising or anything even close

Nothing compares to Apple's marketing department. They are immensely aggressive. How else are they able to sell such shoddy products time and again?

I think they might be banking on widespread familiarity with starcraft 1, and they want to show off their cinematics team. To somebody who's completely unfamiliar with the game, these trailers make it look like an incredible experience no matter how the game plays.
I remember seeing the trailers for WoW before it was released and honestly they are the only reason I bought it, never having played an MMO before.

they are certainly stepping it up a notch in terms of marketing and advertising. i guess being part of activision and vivendi has its advantages.
