Well I'm going off to University soon and I will probably need a phone.
Any suggestions?
I really just want my phone to be able to do phone things + browse the internet which seems to be pretty standard now
My cousin says I should get an iPhone because of all the apps and how handy they are, but the thing is I don't like Apple ;w;
I am going to sleep now so I expect this to be full of useful (and useless) posts by the time I wake up <:

iphone :D unless you want to just get a basic phone, and perhaps have ipod or ipad for wireless. If you are on campus all day, then those should work fine. Iphone is great when you are outside campus though.

If you browse the internet casually I would recommend an iPhone or an iPod touch because they are pretty useful in the regard. I have a cheap nokia that works great, and an iPod touch which I use for internet browsing at school so it doesn't rack up my fees. I love the little setup that I have here because I use the schools wireless internet and my phone plan is cheap, and my phone came free with the plan.

iphone is a good phone regardless of your bi-estness towards apple
It really depends on what service provider you will be using. If you are using AT&T, Iphone or HTC for high end phones (smartphones). Or you can go mid tier (feature phones) and get things such as the samsung mythic/solstice. However your best choice would be to go to a store of the respective service provider you will choose, and look and demo their phones, while speaking with an employee about your needs and concerns.

I'm using old Nokia E61. Quite a decent smart with all communications (wifi, 3g, bt, ir). And a netbook for everything else

Nokia E71. Hands down the best mobile device I have ever owned.

If you're in Canada, I would avoid the iPhone like the plague, especially given your dislike for Apple. The contracts for it are insanely bad, and there are plenty of far superior alternatives. Since you're looking for a "smartphone", I'd go with either something that uses Android (the new HTC phones are good), or a Blackberry.

HTC Evo 4G or if you don't like touch-screen typing, Motorola Droid.

I have the BlackBerry Curve for Verizon and love it- couldn't get a touchscreen phone because I send long emails on my phone and hate using touchscreen keyboards
