[SC2] Curiosity killed the cat.....

Impervious Canada4147 Posts June 02 2010 21:25 GMT #1 .....and, rather than posting in the SC2 forum and risk getting banned, I figured this would be a better place for this. I've seen a lot of beta keys given out, and I know a few people who have gotten invites directly from Blizzard, as well as knowing people who got them from other means..... This got me wondering..... How many accounts are on the Beta? How many keys have been made available by Blizzard? I'm curious, because I'm sure there are at least a million people opted into the Beta (maybe up to 10 million, but I would guess closer to about 5 million).

Then there are probably like twice as many unused/inactive keys. Multiply that with 3 major regions or so. So about 1,000,000? I could be horribly wrong, of course. In both directions.

The European Beta seems to have 50k people online at any time and I doubt it's only 300k people playing averages of 1/6th of their days. There's tons and tons of casual players in the Beta so to amount to 50k people online you need enormous amounts of Beta users. TL hits and the % of people who have a Beta here point to the direction of really high numbers as well.

Impervious Canada4147 Posts June 03 2010 13:32 GMT #8 I figured that the average player plays about an hour a day. 50k online at any given time * 24 hours in a day = over a million players on each server..... 3 servers puts it to about 3.6 million people..... Add in unused accouts..... That's where I got my figure for "5 million"...... I've been looking forward to SC2 for the last year and a half. I've been playing as often as I can. And I might be averaging 2-3 hours a week since I got the beta..... I'm pretty sure that I'm far from the only person in this situation.
