But then I suddenly realized... something felt different when I played SCBW after watching SPL games...
So hello again. I don't think anyone will read this (cause I'm ignored in real life), but oh well I might as well as write something about this.
About few months ago, I decided to join teamliquid and do liquibet and fantasy stuff, because I heard that it was fun. I also realized that on the sidebar, I was able to watch progames when they were airing in Korea. Sweet.
First game that I tuned into? EVER 2009 OSL Finals Set 1.
It was fun watching the game, and I decided to frequent this whenever I had the time.
From then on, I started to notice that there were many people doing the live translations on the livestreams. I told myself, what the heck? I would try this out too.
And thus, I began translating games online.
Sure, there are times where I would just like to relax and watch the games while talking to other people (I have done this many times =]), but I think TL community deserves at least one translator per livestream, if the broadcaster approves one.
But recently, I began to notice something.
Whenever I played a game, I started to think differently. In the old days, I just rushed when I felt like it or accidently saw my opponent coming out. I harassed when it was very unnecessary. I forgot to take expansions. For some reason, this began to change. Sure, I do forget to do things often and make mistakes, but my game seems to be improving for once. When I'm in a situation, I think about one of the translations that I did in SPL and think about what the commentators said. And then I execute what I think they recommended in certain situations. Sure, it doesn't always work, but it surely helps more than just randomly attacking and building units that aren't necessary.
Watching Nal_Ra's oldboy helped a lot too. Since I'm only a D Protoss, getting tips from that show sometimes helps (like Nal_Ra vs gogo in Episode 9 where he commented: "Harass here, harass there, about 2 more harasses then attack, gg" Magically, next PvT I played, I did something similar. Although my expo got taken out, it worked. I was actually able to win a PvT with carriers (doesn't happen often). The fact that one of the games that I watched day before had a PvT game with the Protoss being able to make ground units along with carriers helped a lot, and realizing that you should put the carriers on the high ground and attack the goliath on the low ground.
Anyways, comments aside, watching SPL games and related shows help a lot. If you're D-range player, I suggest you to watch some games and think about their plays, their decisions, and the outcomes. Because someday, you will start to think more like the pro-players rather than just a-move-oops-army-gone.
(Now, executing it properly is a different story. Just remember to macro well while defending/adapting properly)
In other news: NSL. I have to get this thing back on track. I'm done with APs (as previous blog post stated), and O_ops (commentator department) finished his 7 AP TESTS. 7. Yes.
One last thing: I usually play games on my laptop because my old desktop cannot even run SC right. Whenever I scroll the screen during the game, it does not scroll smoothly. You can clearly see the choppiness. So I just decided to fool around with the keyboard attacked to my old desktop that I really don't use anymore today. And then I realized that I had Samsung Keyboard (which I used for several years, even before moving from Korea to here). I decided to check the model of the keyboard.
