Supposedly popular in korea (according to a random guy on the bnet forums, but I'hve actually seen Demuslim do this) is the so called 1/1/1, whatever it is called, i'hve been trying it out.
Its basically Marines off a reactor, siege tanks with no siege mode, a raven and then banshees. You need 2 early gas, and you supply before rax.
I must have played like 30-40 games of this today, and it is awesome against fast voidray, fast DT and fast immortal, but I am having so much trouble against people who stay on gateway tech it's not even funny.
What i'hve been thinking is the reason that this supposedly might be popular in korea is because of a higher prevalence of these builds. It remains KINDA strong against staying on gate, but I'm having trouble with it since I cant seem to spare enough resources to scan both main for tech and nat for expands. The build feels mechanically heavy, but rewarding.
The key is that if they are low on stalkers, the PDD and the banshees will crush them.
Anyone else been using this build to great effect who could offer a bit more insight?

this build is very weak to zealot temp

build bunkers at your natural choke, get siege. SIEGE > GATEWAY UNITS. If they go chargelot, go hellion. follow avilo's transition for a very strong mid-late game.

Yeah I gotta say if they stay on gateway tech you can get the upper-hand by just researching siege. I use a variation of the build you're talking about and the counter is mass zealot/sentry early into colossus with maybe void ray or phoenix support. Zealot/Sentry/Colossus are not effected by PDD. Stalker/ Immortal/ DT/ Void Ray rush gets raped by this build. High templar can be good against it but if they opt for storm it really comes down to micro and will force you to get ghosts, which is pretty much always a good follow up for this build. Read the ghost mech article for more discussion.

I'm still a bit puzzled on what to do with my starport after my raven, banshees are not something I'm used to using, and work great SOME games, but I'm having huge trouble with them other games

I usually use it to get 2-3 ravens, 2 vikings for obs hunting, and banshees for the rest of the game. Usually you'll be using most of your gas on ghosts and tanks but throwing in a couple banshees with your main army is surprisingly effective. It will make them want to skew their unit composition towards stalkers, which is what you want them to do with this build. Of course they can be used for harass as well, but I wouldn't underestimate their power when just thrown in the mix with your ravens/marines/tanks.
