Ok i have been playing beta for some while now, and one fear i had is that playing SC2 i would get used to the new mechanics like muli building select, huge selections, auto mine ect ect....
after 1 week of solid beta playing i played some BW on iccup and to my suprise it was easy as pie to get back into playing as if i never left, the only difference is the graphics looked worse then then i recall from seeing nice SC2 lol (like playing original xbox games right after playing a bunch of xbox360)
Alot of people put them in some grind vs eachother so SC2 can take over all of SC1 in the E-Sports ect...
The fact is i see them as 2 games and now that i see im able to play them inter-changably i actually plan on playing both games...
Anyone else play them back and fourth? and if you do are you able to do it smoothly without getting too used to trying to select 9999999999999 hydras playin on iccup lol

I haven't played bw since sc2 but I'm not surprised that it's pretty easy to go back and forth.

You havent been not playing it long enough I guess. People have limited time in which to play, and the people who like sc2 will want to devote that time entirely to playing sc2. After a while, your bw skills will naturally decline I am having a lot of trouble doing 0p9p for toss instead of just 3e lolol

Yes it's really easy to go back to Brood War since most people have years of muscle memory built up. Before I went to the last LAN I hadn't played BW in a month and had two weeks of SC2 built up but it was super easy to play.

after playing nothing but the beta, watching replays and looking at streams ever since it came out, i went back on iccup for a quick game and to see how many people were still even on, played one game, exited, uninstalled the game.
I will never go back to BW.

I played a few games of BW yesterday on iccup after about about 100 SC2 games.. somehow my mechanics have improved. I find it easy to switch, although not having unlimited unit selection is a bummer, and I cry in ZvT because I miss the lurker.

I dont think i've opened broodwar since i got beta last friday, and probably wont for a long long time unless someone specifically wants to play against me in it.
Waited too damn long for sc2, and bw was amazing, but its time is done for me, on to bigger and (hopefully) better things ^^

i love bw...

I plan on playing 90% SC2 i just like to get C- or better every season on iccup haha i dont think that will ever change. and C- isnt too hard for me so i can do it rusty lol

I got my beta key about a week ago and I probably played almost 50 bw games and 20 beta games... I still try to use "p" for pylon and probe in beta..wtf
|
haha, i still separatly hotkey my buildings
|
i fully intend to play both i dont intend to let myself not get C- at the end of each season...love the yellow...and at the same time the only thing i noticed was that after a while of playing sc2 i tend to try to make probes and pylons w/e and vice versa with p lolololol....i need a comp that can run sc2 before it comes out cuz im only able to play on my friend's comp every couple of days

I don't know... personally, I find it hard to have the motivation to keep playing 2 games. I mean, if I had a lot more time which I don't spend at work/at school/studying/out with friends, it might be a good idea.
But - why keep playing on iccup when you won't get better? (don't pretend you're going to get better if you play both lol...) I stopped at C+ even though my goal was B-, because I knew SC2 would be a lot more entertaining, and the game wasn't 98% fine-tuned and figured out. I'll still play the occasional 2's or 2v2v2v2 bgh with some friends, but I don't think it'll be a good idea for me to try to keep my skill up.
Whether you think so or not, your skill WILL degrade even though you know that game so well. You will notice things starting to slip, and maybe even slightly slower reactions in SC if you keep up with SC2 (I played a few games on iccup a week after I started playing SC2Beta, and I felt a little bit detached from the feel of the game) - for me it was forgetting to place an ob or sair at a crucial spot in pvz.
I'd say just play what you like to play the most, and if that means playing both then play both. If you find you can improve at both and you like playing both, then that's impressive. I personally don't see myself improving at both without too much time gaming, and that's why I can't get back into SC. I'd get frustrated if I don't see progress. The fact is, there are very very minute differences in the gameplay at higher levels of iccup which I won't ever reach without relentless practice, and that just isn't worth it when you can be at the higher end of the skill curve in another game (SC2).

Starcraft is complex. It takes too much time/practice to maintain skill. It would simply be too difficult to maintain mastery level knowledge and skill at two very different games. Also the fact that the keyboard shortcuts are all different would be too much to handle for me.
Also I'm not motivated enough to play two games.

And one day you will get tired of SC2 and realize... you never really liked either game all that much anyway... Then you will realize you have wasted a large portion of your life on things you don't even like. Then you will cry because at that moment, you will know you are a sheep.
SC2 feels like some kind of homage to SC, honestly. Like a watered-down version. I'm more excited for SC being moved onto Bnet 2.0 than I am for the release of SC2. That being said, I will play both. Just like I play WC3 every now and again. Who the fuck cares which one you play? They are just games... in case you guys have forgotten. If you still enjoy playing a game then why should you stop? If the dated graphics really bother you that much then don't play the game. Pretty simple. For the record, I still think SC looks beautiful and I won't tire of playing it for a very long time. It's just... so good! SC2 lacks the love.
EDIT: If you guys are simply playing a game to be good at it then you aren't playing for the right reasons. I don't blame you for wanting to move over to SC2 so bad. Then you can grind away at that until you hate it.

idk...... i tried going back to bw, though i was playing bgh, and i was so behind and messed up w/ hotkey

im hoping sc2 will get a lot better by the time it comes out so i wont want to play BW any more, but I think otherwise I'll be playing just BW again by the end of the year.
It's just easier to have 1 game that's your go-to instead of 2.
