The doomsday clock is approaching midnight at an exponential rate, as our population grows at an exponential rate. Certain people believe in a collective collaboration of governments as a means to survival. Such beliefs are generated from million dollar investments in "clean energy", our sudden concern for global warming, and the investments in food alternatives - such as cloning, and eugenics. These meager devlopments are significantly overrated; relatively the investments and developments are nothing in comparison to the 6 billion person population.
I'm skeptical of the government as our means for survival; I'd rather believe in the fictitious, but very plausable, "odd-man hypothesis", in which our survival is better off in the hands of a radical unmarried man, who is given the power to kill off a large fraction of our race to ensure humanity's progression - such as nuclear arms.
Such trivial thoughts on our survival are useless however; I highly doubt in our lifetimes anything this extreme will happen. However, if you're still concerned about the human race, I am sure somewhere in the next billion years we will all evolve to become autotrophs and shed our need for carbon based life forms as nutrients.
The video game StarCraft reflects this evolution through the superiority of the Protoss race - having been able to evolve from hunters to autotrophs. Though strangely they are colloured a pale white, despite in physics white is the colour that absorbs the least amount of light. The protoss are so superior that they also maintain enhanced physical strength, posses "psyonic" abilities, and enjoy thousands of years of longevity.
Furthermore, some high ranked members of this race are able to perform mating rituals to shed their bodies and become pure energy. Though they have yet to fully evolve to maintain this state, as their life expectancy is drastically reduced; this just shows their evolution is still incomplete. In the game, we can see that there was only 1 female in the video game; the "Matriarch" - who was unfortunately assassinated by the Zerg Queen Kerrigan. The protoss though, are not doomed since we can see the protoss being able to mate male to male.
As Einstein once fortold, 'we will one day shed our need for our bodies and become energy'. I am eagerly waiting for this to happen, and currently rehersing to become an autotroph:

I'd rather die a thousand times as a Terran than switch to Protoss.

too bad the protoss race is immensely underpowered and has virtually no chance of winning anything ever because of race imbalances being coupled with map imbalances

DT's always get trapped and killed, whether or not they do any damage first. Better to be a BC --- usually you'll win, and in the worst-case scenario the game is a draw and you don't even have to fight at all, just fly around the map and look scary and use your Yamato gun every couple minutes.

You didn't read Andromeda Strain correctly if you think that is what the odd man hypothesis is.
Edit: (But I won't tell you the right definition since that would be a spoiler for those who haven't read it.)
I hardly believe that we are going to evolve anywhere. We will extinct just as we are, maybe a couple hundreds years, hope a couple thousands years from now.
but if we develop to protoss, there will be no terran and since we know the insects will become zerg during that time and that Z>P we're doomed mb that was your point
