Hey everyone!
In what seems like an eternity ago, November 21st to be exact, I was approaching my 40th iCCup win. I was some like 36-49(all PvT besides 3 races switchers) with a 65% win rate on Heartbreak Ridge. I was riding a 5 game win streak, and had 2600+ or so pts. All those games are.
Than for whatever reason I tried to start playing in ways that did not make sense for the matchup I was playing, I started playing PvP in PvT. For example I started delaying my post-Core tech until I killed the scout, and if one got in while my citadel (or w/e), was warping in I would cancel it. Doing these dumb things I than went on an awesome 2-14 run....
I realized I had to get out of this rut, so I decided to play a random D- player. Slump buster per se lol! So I stomped the D- player with DT's and felt a little stress come off my shoulders. But I needed to win another to get back into proper PvT mindset. Luckily for my morale I caught an offracing Zerg whom played a very unorthodox game. I ended up being about a in away from mining out his min only 3rd on Destination and had like 6 bases to his 3 or so.
That win vs. the offracing was my 40th win, now I hold a not sweet record of 40-67 but am looking foward to getting to win 50! It'll take some time but than again this is my first season playing SC (well, playing it the right way), so I am shooting for that C by next season! I was so close to a C- too !
If you want to see any of my games (theLastZerg one is really wierd and wild game lol!) they are ALL on repdepot!
Thanks!

hi5! Now for your 100th win :D
|
Well I just picked up a win on Tornado and got my D+ Ranking back.
It was a game I controlled except for like 5 mins of it. I actually ended up having a double set of tech. he destroyed my natural and I THOUGHT was bout to destroy my main. luckily i had taken the top left base and expansion unbeknownst to him so I thru down another set of tech and ended up saving the main. but i basically switched bases and made my gateway farm at the new main. had a cool moment too where i took the top-right natural with him just starting in the main. he didn't know about my base but i knew about his so i ended up taking the mian too.
when he left he had one base he hadn't even finished the cc with and I had 5 in use. he tried to dorp my 2nd main with like 7 dropships but i had a ton of zealots and goons w8ing for em.
so 3-0 in my last 3, maybe i got my groove back ! lol

lol i would love to. but with 2 jobs and a small businesses i have been starting time is short.
hopefully i'll hit 200 by the end of the season!
i got to admit I like PvT, it's such a dynamic and aggressive match. i think i'm just going to play PvT for the rest of the season and start either PvZ or PvP next season.

When did you start learning to play sc?

I started in 1.00. But up until December last year I did not know micro/macro/bo's even existed. All i played was FMP/BGH with no micro or macro whatsoever. Me and my friends would build 100 turrets/cannons (litreally sometimes) and just mass carriers/bc's 1a2a3a and just watch it happen. So I am working on getting rid of 10 yrs of bad habits. For example my APM was like 15-20, now I'm at 90-120 APM.

Ahhh just got another win, 4-0 in the last 4 now I think the curse is over! It was a D- player tho, so I'm not too sure yet !
Going to mass some games 2night after I get baked outm oddly enuff I play better, just at a lower APM when I'm mad baked. It's sort of funny tho my APM drops like 15-20 when I'm high, but I make better decisions and play "my-style" game.
What's my-style game? Where I contain the Terran at his natural or 3rd until hes out of mins while I turbo expand all over the map. I love it !

The very first time I played on iCCup was hilarious. Lost my first 6 or 8 games straight, and ended with a record of something like 28-63 or something like that, hahaha. I just remember being so shocked at the beginning.

I actually had a reverse shock in that sense. i cam to iCCup preparing to go like 0-20. Instead I went 3-3 in my first 6 including a win over a offracing C player. I was in total awe I could win lol!
Than I went 1-8 . I was pretty down until I went 6-2 after that. My whole time on iCCup has been up and down. But it's my first real season and I've always been upper D level to a high D+ at times. I'm 12-0 against D- players, and never hit D-, I got to skip it lol!
Playing SC wrong for 10 years sux cause my keyboard mechanics are god-awful. But I know alot of little details that helps big time at the low levels. I can look at an enemy army and know I can run it over or not. I know where the best flank angles will be, etc...
Now I just need to get my mechanins on the keyboard up to my gamesense and i'll be able to hit C- in no time! I was so close b4 this losing streak too, 1600+ pts !
Edit: WHOO HOO! Make it 5-0 in my last 5!!!

Also from the time when your apm was 20 till now, how much time has passed? What did you do to improve yourself at the very beginning?

O ok got ya.
I wrote alot so I hope u got some time lol!
I was at about 20 APM in GOMTV Season 2. I saw a Starcraft thread on Penny Arcade and picked a Bisu game and watched. I was blown away I had no idea this kind of gameplay existed.
so i started by watching alot of vod's from GOM. after seeing all the things i never knew needed to be done (ie: goon micro, macro, maynarding, etc...) I played against Entropy for about 20 games. Than started on iCCup.
One thing I did was choose and stick with only one matchup. I started PvT. I am currently 110 games in now, and have only played 1 PvP, 0 PvZ and have had 3 race switchers. SO I am understanding the matchup as a whole. I'lll prolly switch to PvP or PvZ next season. But for the rest of this one I'm an all PvT player.
Another thing I did i think that helped alot is for about the first 50-60 games I reviewed the shit out of every game I played. I also payed attention to every SINGLE LITTLE thing I did wrong. I casted it in my head with a very critical eye, as if tasteless was casting. that way by reviewing my wins i can still see the things I fail to do when I'm ahead.
Also I play a style that suits me being a mainly mouse player by playing a contain based game. I use early DT or Dragoon aggression (my units I'm most proficient with) to delay the Terran's expansion. I try to control the nat until I have at least 4-5 bases than about that time they get it back. But the key is at that point my mechanics aren't as glaring as a hole because I'm so far ahead economically it's more or less impossible for them to win.
I use lots of nasty tricks too: multiple manner pylons, dt rushes, hold position under the CC landing spot with DT, expanding while under heavy attack, tech switches, fake tech (ie: researching air weapons on the Cyber Core and than switching to DT's when I kill the scout), ninja expansions, stealing opponents expansions (ie: 3rd and 4th on HBR, min only on Dest, etc) are all regular parts of my plan when I play.
If you want to see my ideal game watch my last game, I play very poorly, but being I staved off an huge bunker rush it didn't matter. Like I said, a bad mechanics game, but that's my ideal way to win a game. An endless contain and expansion denial. Normally I have alot more gates and a whole tech pattern, but i was trying to take the whole map lol!
Ne ways all my replays are on RepDepot. I mean ALL of them, even my first games vs. the CPU. SO if you want to see it in action just pick some random replays and see me progress.
