Another thing is, is anyone here currently attending/will be attending U of M? I wanna have some people I can get together with and play some SC next fall.

I got accepted to U of M also back in December I don't know much about their CS program, but you should try what AcrossFiveJulys said and check past syllabi to see an outline of the courses.

I got accepted to their College of Engineering (#9 in the country) Computer Science department. The first thing I was wondering was does anyone know what languages they'll be teaching, I know a lot of people on TL are majoring in CS, so even if you're not attending U of M which languages does your class primarily use? I wanted to get a little head start and hit the ground running. Last year I learned the basics of python, so this summer I was just looking for a language I could start to learn. So whatcha think? Another thing is, is anyone here currently attending/will be attending U of M? I wanna have some people I can get together with and play some SC next fall. yo, I am also a computer science major in michigan. Are you attenting Uo M AA or UofM Flint? AA is a much nicer campus(and smash center of the midwest) but I am going to school in kettering which is located in flint so no SC in AA. Kettering is a private university and not run by Michigan so the standards could be totally different, but the main CS line of courses uses Java. If you are planning to go into the computer science line of work I recommend 3 areas of study Java C# / C++ HTML(or whatever web based shit you want to use) During highschool I was dual enrolled and took a class in python but besides that never had any exposure to other programing languages. CS101 in freshman year of college was extremely similar and after a week or so I was already carrying friends and hot asian lab partners through the course. If you just read up on python or java and have a general grasp of how programming works I'm sure you will do fine. If anything I would worry about brushing up on your general ed shit for your first couple years of courses. Freshman year is almost always the hardest and if you just spend the week before you go back trying to remember all the old highschool shit in Chem, Physics, Calc, etc you will be good to go. Don't be nervous or worried about everyone that is a CS major already being a huge nerd and knowing a ton about programming. Of course there will be the 10-20% meganerds who can complete the whole terms coursework in one day but atleast half of the class will be fresh to programming so if you arent a complete moron you should be fine. Add me on msn if you have any other questions about that shit or if you are gonna be around UofM Flint we could SC it up diddykong13@hotmail.com - MSN josh7460 - AIM edit: I think someone already recommended this but you can look up online (or ask people already through the class) what book you need and get ahold of it before you start class. Only nerds do that though edit2: lol typed wall of text on bumped post fail

I'm a sophomore CS major at U Michigan-AA too. For first year students they teach C++ in engr101, and continue teaching C++ in eecs280 (I haven't gotten farther than that) By the way, where are you living for fall semester? Maybe we could get together and play some SC. I'm on Bursley this year.
