Well I can see you are very frustrated, and that is very common among new players. How long have you been playing? You said you were just beggining and you are D- already.
Before I begin, Please go to the stategy section and go to the begginer section and read and understand the concepts presented there, including DAy[9]'s podcasts.
Here is some advice that helped me. Also TL.net search "guide to self improvement." Alot of what I am going to say is from that guide. Finally. use Liquipedia.
1) Do not complain. Do not blog about it, do no go into a nerd rage session. I found that it only hurts, and weakens you.
2) You just started. You need to actually play some games, and for the lag thing, just google starcraft portforwarding, and the link to portforward.com (usually the first one) will have a 6/5 star guide as to how to do it properly. Then you host your own games, and let people join. This is a very fast method. You should also find some friends that play sc, or join a clan. Having people who you can discuss starcraft with regularly really helps you improve.
3) VODS will not get you nowhere. Yeah you can analyze army positioning and little micro moves, but you can not see everything, and I found that it was hard when the Korean commentators are screaming "RIBARIBARBIA GGGGGGGG." I got too excited, and maybe you are too.
4) Watch replays of your favourite players, with a learning mindset. Analyze the strategy, the building placement, and the build order that goes along with the stategy. For example, I recently watched many White-RA replays and learned I was executing Corsair/Dark templar all wrong. Also, sometimes they build is different in different situations, as you must react to what your opponent is doing, or because the features of the map do not allow/allow certain plays
5) Play with a learning mindset. For example, I just recently got pwned in a PvT by a friend because he killed almost all my probes. Why? because my defence was not adequate enough. Now I learned that I must build either cannons or leave some units at the bases in order to protect my workers.
6) Play alot. This is a very practical game, and the only way you can learn is through practice. 7) When you read things, make sure you are understanding why they say the things they are. Sometimes, you will learn something, and then not do it in game until you experience a severe loss because you did not do it in game.
8) Have fun with it. You will find losing is fun to, because you will say "oh my god, that was a sick strategy" or, "jeez that guy has some good macro" or something. If in the end after following all of this, you still hate this game, then by all means quit. For me, this is a huge hobby, and not every has to like it, but please, for your own sake, try some of the things I have presented.

There are a few ICCUP channels like that but they were all sleepy when I went there.
My 6112 / 6114 is forwarded at home, I cant do that at work. join channel op irc on iccup

I've also found that finding a better player who can game with you and show you the basics is a very good way to improve. You may think that you're following the build orders well and everything, but a better player will be able to give you a basic sense of timings and game logic (the REASON behind the build orders).
I'm not a great player myself, but I'd be willing to help if you're interested You can PM me and we'll set something up.

I forgot one ,more thing:
9) You must think in game alot. Ex. "He is going 1 gate reaver against me, what do I do." repeatdly doing this will help alot.

Dude, i get on icc, host "1:1D MOTW" and in 10 seconds someone has joined, most of the time there is little lag, and since i play D players the matches are usually good(though i lose more then i win)

since you claim to be D- and are having trouble getting iccup running, i suggest just playing some 2v2v2v2 BGH games or 3v3 BGH games on USEast. Not only is finding a game worlds easier, but it gives you the opportunity to work on broad fundamentals (macro/keeping your money at 0, unit composition, positional considerations, some micro, handspeed, hotkey comfort, basic multitasking). Moreover, they are SUPER fun especially if you have a friend! Once you've played a hundred or so games of that, your brain will feel much more relaxed and you'll probably be able to reach D+ with much more ease.
in other words, be glad you're having iccup troubles! go play some fun games so that you can take a break from your issues , bash some scrubs, AND improve!! :D I fully endorse this.
It's how I got to D+
;D

So many racist pricks and idiots in this topic... it doesn't show a good side of TL very much. I'm ashamed. Where's the moderation when you need it?

lol, what? That's completely random, but I would say that they're only checking if you cross the border, not if you go near it.
What you're wearing and what you look like is irrelevant. :o

I definitely agree with the OP. But this is really only because the game is over 10 years old, they didn't plan it out well enough.

lol, whenever I host a game it fills within 10-30 seconds
