First off, let me begin by saying that I live in Atlanta, GA. Every day, I commute to and from the worst parts of the city, going through gang neighborhoods and encountering some of the dregs of society. I recently illegally obtained a .380 Walther PPK/S for personal defense purposes.
My question is this.. Let's assume that I'm caught in possession of this firearm. I know that there are circumstances that would affect this, such as whether or not the weapon in question was on my person or in my automobile, whether or not I was on federal property, etc ad infinitum. Is it a felony or misdemeanor to have it on my person/automobile?
(For the record, I'm 19 years old with no prior convictions, and let's assume that the arrest for possession isn't in commission of another crime.)
Anyone know what a possible penalty for that would be, moreover?

PPK? Are you James Fucking Bond??
Just get it the legal way. When you don't they automatically assume you're gonna do something stupid and rightfully so.

sorry i cant help you much, i only know about the gun laws here, but i always wondered, how are the gun laws set in the USA ? Does every state set them for them self ? What do you have to do to get a gun licence legally ?
|
Hawk, they're reliable guns and quite easily concealed. I'm not entirely sure that you even read the OP at all. Like I said, I'm 19, so it's impossible to legally obtain one. Moreover, what exactly about my OP indicates that I'm planning on doing something stupid? As I said, it's for self defense purposes(are you familiar with the homicide rate in Atlanta?).
Besiger, there are some overarching federal laws, such as a minimum age of 21 for handguns, but most states also have firearm laws as well.

yo, im from ATL too. sounds like you are in Lakewood or East Point? I suggest that you alter your routes. getting involved in a shoot-out with atlanta blacks is not something you want to get involved with. if it comes to the point where you think "wow, i wish i had a pistol" you will probably, in the next instant, already be face-down in a ditch riddled with bullets and missing your sneakers.

Where in the A do you live?

Yes, tell the man with the illegal .38 your address.

It's a .380, not a .38
Yeah man, I'm familiar with Alpharetta. Ever gone through Little 5 Points at night? Or through College Park? Near GA Tech or GA State at night? Near the Capitol? All of those are areas I go through on a daily basis. There have been MANY instances in which I wished I had a pistol before I got one. It's not the act of getting in a firefight that a pistol is mainly for in my case. It serves as an excellent deterrent. Besides, I'd much rather be in jail for illegal possession of a firearm than be in the ground because I was defenseless.

I own an HK-SL8. 5.57mm > .38 :D

it's a .380 not a .38 you losers lol. There is a big difference! Also, try CONCEALING that HK

It's the gun Bond uses, that's all I said.
The stupid thing, that's what I'm saying law enforcement assumes whn you buy illegally. He doesn't want his tracks to be seen or he has a record and shouldn't have once, etc etc.
ATL is a cesspool, but still, I'm sure without even checking the legal ramifications make it worth the wait for two more years. Plax Burress is likely to get two years at least for his shit, and he's a celebrity. Do you think they care to make a deal for a kid rocking an illegal, unregistered gun? You're fucked if you're caught with it, and probably fucked if you even use it in self defense.

Hmm I have trouble identifying sarcasm. This is a troll right?

I assume you have fired a handgun and practiced etc with it otherwise you should do so. Then again since you are defending against being attacked on your person you probably won't need marksmanship =)
No insight in laws sry. I stand behind your choice though light recoil small and a nice grip

It's not. The two aren't the same; firearm/ammunition naming methods are just retardedly inconsistent.

When one says .38, one is typically referring to a .38 Special, which is an off-duty police model. The .380 uses a completely different caliber.
Hawk, I understand what you're saying. The thing is, the weapon is hidden in a hidden compartment in my car, so it will NEVER be found unless it's used(the cops only tear your car up unless you're suspected of narcotics involvement). If it IS ever used, I'll be fucked anyway, but I'd rather be fucked while alive.

You probably have to be 21 to have a pistol
Also if you keep it in the glove box, and as long as they don't search your car (police can't unless you say they can or they see drugs on the floor of your car... ) your golden

Wouldn't having it in a hidden compartment defeat the whole purpose lol
Still, big gamble. Just be like rpf and roll around with a shiv
|
imo just get a rifle or 20 gauge and keep it under the front seat of your car. I don't know the legal age for buying a long gun in the US but i know its below 21.
