(Repost, thanks manifesto7, I didn't know how to make a blog) I've been playing Brood War for about six years, two years if you take away four years of money maps. Around two years ago, I discovered the pro-scene, and to put it bluntly, this wonderful invention called the keyboard. No joke. I had honestly been playing StarCraft for four years and the only hotkey i used was b+c (build cannon), because that got tiresome on 3v3 NR20s... Even after I discovered the two words macro and micro, I still sucked horribly. I had around 140-150apm, but even when it wasn't spam, it was just mindless macro and attacks. Still, at this level, my bnet record went from 33% win-total to 75% win-total. However, the final frontier for noobs (iCCup), was still a nightmare for me. I tried playing some games back in Season 9, ending up 0-11 with a score somewhere in the 400s. Since then, my relationship with StarCraft has been on and off, mainly because school was getting in the way. This summer, I decided to give it another shot -but while I hadn't gotten any worse, I definitely wasn't getting any better. However, I remained determined to watch, play, and learn more. Then today arrived. I don't know what happened, but something clicked. It could have been those FPVODs of nintu that I watched last night or something, but something weird happened. Today, after a painful three hours of summer school, I signed onto the Abyss, expecting to be promptly owned. However, this time, the game was CLOSE, and this was a D player, not even D-... I surprised myself with my own abilities! I quickly created a new game, and this time a toss player with a rating somewhere in the 1900s joined. I was scared, but the only way I could prove this wasn't a fluke was to face him. This time, I focused on playing straight up, no 2fac or any cheese of the sort. I decided to expand after siege tech was done and I had secured my natural. 10 minutes went by. I wasn't dead yet. In fact, I had gotten to 6 factories and was harassing my enemy's expansions. I was amazed at how grouping and selecting my units no longer seemed like an alien task, but rather something that came naturally. I took a few more bases, kept on macroing, pushing slightly forward each time an attack of his failed, and to my amazement, he left the game. I then spent the next three hours making more and more games, playing TvTs and TvPs, desperately trying to prove this a fluke. I was met with similar results. I'm still ecstatic with happiness, but I still can't pinpoint the source of my sudden success. While I don't think I'm going to get to D+ just yet, I feel like I'm finally out of a hole that I'd been stuck in for a REALLY long time. Next step, TvZ -.-"

Always great to see something like this, people improving
Keep it up, congrats!

Congratulations. Stick with it and keep watching those FPVODs, they are obviously helping!

Replays of those games would help explain what you're trying to say :D

This is a great blog.
Something similar happened to me too. The "click" part. One day I suddenly knew how to macro properly and play a bit smarter.

Good to hear man. Sounds like your confidence is going up. I feel like watching replays/VODs of better players help yours game sense. You learn some timings, counters, etc. that way.

Nice story! Keep praticing and keep it up!

I once lost to someone with 1point on iccup.... I've been slumping ever since. It's always great to see improvement on iccup when they show you the season by season record. Don't forget to watch the replays and find out what you did wrong.

good job dude, you won in the hardest mu
TvZ isn't that bad really, since MnM are surprisingly resilient.

I thought this season is season 9.. in fact, it is. What are you talking about??
Congratulations on improving... gl in D+, where the concentrations of toss faggotry is so high, people drown in it.
You who are about to be cheesed, I salute you!

OMG!!! the same thing happened to me last season ^________^ back when i was a D- noob...now im a D noob and am managing to not only hold on to D but slowly (hopefully by the end of the season) get to D+ like you...now i just need to stop failing at PvZ >.>

Yeah I'm getting 2gated about 1/3 of the time I ZvP now. Good practice.

heh, I didn't know people consider 2fac cheese.

Way to go! ^.^ I have seen similar improvements in my play level... Almost every increase in my macro/micro/multitasking abilities has come randomly and not through intense practice. In face, usually if I stop playing for an extended period of time I come back with +20 apm and much higher skill xD

Anything that isn't siege expand is cheese now apparently.
