please do some research before calling another person an idiot. my criticizive friend, people can, and have, gone for weeks without sleep without any harm. Not only that, but people with Fatal Familial Insomnia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatal_Familial_Insomnia) often go for several months without any REM sleep before they finally die from lack of sleep.
Whose the idiot now?
This is my 12 hour check in :D my friend and i are still going strong, 27 hours and 8 minutes so far.

You are an idiot, you took some obscure disease that has 50 detected cases in all history, a disease you obviously have no clue about but just read 2 lines about people passing 2 months without sleep and think hey risking migraines, hallucinations, not to mention the incredible mood youre gonna be in, etc. for staying awake for 4 days is totally ok for 1 day's worth of work?
You could have at least looked up the guiness and know that the record is 11 days without sleep.

Not only did i read about that disease, but i read about other cases. Believe me, it is difficult to die from lack of rem sleep. After 9-10 days the body starts taking "micro-naps", where you slip into rem sleep, which is what causes the hallucinations. Dont believe me? i'll post sources.
edit: the thing is, with that disease, the people become unable to sleep. Its not like they have some magical tolerance to the effects of not getting deep sleep.

Youre doing this with such confidence because its difficult to die from lack of sleep? Please post the sources because im fucking certain that you start taking micro naps after 2-3 days alone, of course you dont remember any of them, and they may not enter rem stage. But after 9-10 days you start doing so? Believe me, this is not a very studied subject.

What the fuck did you even read your sources?
At the beginning of the 2nd paragraph of your first source, it explicitly says 'First of all, insomnia and sleep deprivation are two different things' When the article's name is 'Can insomnia be fatal?'
Im not even gonna bother with the yahoo answers one.
Your 3rd link is a question with no fucking answers lol.
But i see your point, 60 bucks is fine for almost killing myself.

Seriously i just want to say that if i wasn't 100% sure that staying up 4 or 5 days could kill me, theres no way i would do it. I wouldn't risk my life like that and a bunch of reputable sources all point to about 28 days of zero rem sleep (impossible due to micro naps) or several months to a year of no sleep with micro naps before you die. the answers to the third source are below the question...
http://www.sleepnet.com/insomnia12/messages/667.html http://www.sleepnet.com/insomnia12/messages/647.html http://www.sleepnet.com/insomnia12/messages/640.html
and yes, i'll admit the yahoo answers one is a bit tenuous, but the thing is all of the sources contain the same information, which probably points to the fact that its common knowledge. staying up for a week would not kill me

I had to check the dates on this thread about four times. The OP / responses are soooo similar to the last one

since you're clearly intent on staying up regardless of what we say, good luck. let us know when the walls melt. also, did you win your bet last time?

Well i am quite tall. Right now i'm at 30 hours and 34 minutes, so really i've just begun. Heres a picture:
(Yes, those are macs in the backround (g3's i think, the kind with the swivel monitor and the small base) I got them from free from a computer lab.)

I think the most I ever stayed up was 2 nights, (probably like 45 hours or so). The morning sun angle is always the hardest for me to deal with, it's so fucking bright it just make everything so surreal and tiring. Meanwhile everyone else is all fresh and peppy.
PS- Why is everyone so negative on this topic. He's gonna be fine, stop being such pussies.

LOL why would you possibly want to spend your vacation like this hahaha ... And I didn't know you could die from insomnia guess the brain just doesn't want to wake up after that.

Oh god i love you for actually being positive. Also i am quite tired, lol.

A friend of mine stayed up for about 6 days once just to see what it was like, he would fall asleep in the middle of a sentence and awake a minute later and finish it lol. He began to freak out after a while but there weren't any long term effects so I'm sure you'll be fine after just doing this once or twice, gl.
The longest I've stayed up for is about 60 hours, I played a lot of halo 2 and BW and smoked a large amount of weed then slept for about 9-10 hours and was totally fine.
