3 hours on and off then got too lazy to finish from the neck down hence the white gradient.
The picture doesn't really do her justice, she's a lot better looking. XD All feedback welcome, I know I'm nooby at this art stuff.

Like I said I'm pretty noob at this digital art stuff so this was done entirely with the Photoshop's brush tool, round brush with sharp edges. It's not an edit if that's what you're asking, this was done from scratch with a picture for reference. As for it being blocky, I can see that. Probably should have gone over it with a brush with feathered edges.

The more I thought about your crit the more I saw the blockiness lol. Figured it would only take 5 minutes or so to smooth out the sharp edges so here's the updated version, I think it does look quite a bit better. The blockiness probably didn't bother me initially since I normally like looking at art where you can see the brushstrokes, I find it interesting to look at.

Your canvas size is really, really, really big for the composition. You can cut down on it considerably, all that white in the back is also really distracting. Her nose... Color choice...her skin is a bit red. I'm not really sure how you can do it in Photoshop, but (bit late now) using a cooler color (blue, maybe even a dark green) would've been really beneficial. The shading on her forehead is a bit underdeveloped, I think. That being said, I don't know what she actually looks like and what you were working with. With that that being said, nice work. I could never get the hang of the whole digital thing...I much prefer physical media. This is really good.

I took all of one minute putting these two on and look at the difference: Original + Show Spoiler + Altered + Show Spoiler + Altered2 + Show Spoiler + Jesus no. To the OP: I have very little experience painting in photoshop, but I do know that you have some anatomy problems going on. The most prominent thing is her left cheek is much too large. From the way her head is turned you should be seeing much less of the left cheek. I also doubt her face is so round unless she's a chubby. In all seriousness though try holding up your hand and covering a bit of her left cheek up. I think you got caught in the problem of drawing not what you see but what you think you see. Many people think of the head simply as an oval shape but it is not, especially at the angle her head is turned. Look again! Specifically - look at the contour of her face, it is not round. Overall, nice work and keep it up!

Seriously feathers just pinch the bridge of your nose for me... is it.... A - slightly narrower than the rest of your nose? or B - three times as wide? (LOL) ....well ? Straylight is bang on about her left cheek as well. It's actually larger than the right side and she is clearly facing slightly to her right, which would reveal more of her right side and less of her left side, which is the OPPOSITE OF THE PICTURE. So YOU are "dumb" and a "moron" and a hypocrite in the process, to say the LEAST.

I agree it doesn't look quite right, but I'm not sure what you're suggesting. I have no idea what composition is. XD I've heard the term mentioned a few times, I should probably look it up. I'll take a closer look at the nose, I honestly didn't spend much time on it. What do you mean when you say the "shading is underdeveloped" on the forehead? I'm not sure what you mean by underdeveloped. I'm guessing you have some traditional art experience? I always wanted to try my hand at real painting but digital has the advantage of being cheaper, cleaner/takes up less space, and more forgiving with regards to mistakes. Which I make a lot of. Overall, nice work and keep it up! I'd agree with that. I checked the proportions/distances on the reference photo against my picture and they seem right but I'm guessing the shading and shape of certain elements is resulting in that cheek looking a lot larger than it should. So while the silhouette is correct I've done some miss arranging. Funny you should mention "Drawing what you think you see instead of what you see", I heard that a lot the first time I got into this stuff but mainly applied to color. I should keep this in mind more often. Which it shouldn't but then again I'm just looking at myself in the mirror maybe im a freak or she has a fat face. Nice work though !! 100x better than what I could do. Argh, I didn't think it looked that bad but after reading that I definitely see what you are talking about. I'll give it a shot when I get home. Thanks for the crits everyone! You'll have to forgive me if I don't understand some of the jargon you guys are using though, I'm just a programmer that likes to scribble so some of these art terms are foreign to me. Really appreciate the feedback though, can't wait to get home and try to apply some of this!
