I'm going to visit Australia for 3 weeks from end of March to middle of April.
It would be nice, if some Australians here could give me advice where to go and what to do.
Background:
I'm a 25year old guy from Germany. My girlfriend is in Australia (Tazmania) since a few weeks and probably will stay until May.
We will meet end of March at the Sydney Airport.
So: I definitely dont want to spend my 3 weeks in Australia by staying in the big citys and party all day long.
I also dont want and dont have to work in those 3 weeks as i have ~1500$ with me.
Where would you go and what places are worth visiting (like great barrier reef).
Is it a good idea to rent a car and tour through the outback or will it be booring as hell?
What would you suggest?

places to visit in sydnay: opera house, harbour bridge, blue mountains, taronga zoo, red v blue internet cafe in epping (they got razer mice and keyboards! definitely the best one ive been to)
other places outside sydney you can visit: gold coast (theme parks), great barrier reef, cairns, melbourne city (and twelve apostles near it). tasmania has some pretty good scenery im sure.
hm, cant think of any beyond those, i dont travel often (poor uni student)
outback? personally never been there, cant say much. renting a car to go around queensland is a viable option, might get expensive, im not sure.

Don't tour the outback.
Just hit the queensland coast, particularly burleigh heads. It's not far from some really good theme parks etc.
$1500AUD or 1500Euro?
'Cause if it's 1500 Euros then you've got like $3,000 AUD which should be plenty, I think. So don't worry about money.

Out of curiosity is there ever a chance of you going to Tazmania? What's she doing over there? I have family in Hobart, and when my Uncle visited them, he said it was a nice trip, and he even sent me some nice souvenirs :D

Its only 1500AUD, but i hope it is enough, as long as we dont sleep in hotels.
Taronga zoo in sydney sounds like a good idea to visit.
I also like the idea of queensland coast (burleigh heads) and gold coast.
Are there good free beaches? And how will the weather be there at the end of March?

She first was in Hobart too, worked a little in a second hand shop to get the room in the house of the women for free (i think its called woofing). Since 3 weeks she works on a blueberry farm in northern Tazmania for some money.
I probably wont go to Tazmania because international flights (like from Germany) only arrive at Sydney. So i had to pay to more flights to visit Tazmania. Would get to expensive in my opinion.
Furtheremore she told me that the weather in Tazmania is quiete bad compared to the rest of Australia... one more reason

Well, I'm not sure how much it would cost, but you could drive down to melbourne from Sydney, go down The Great Ocean Road, see the 12 apostles, then hop on the Spirit of Tasmania (large ferry that leaves to tasmania every day or so, it's a day trip), see your GF then screw around in Tasmania (even though there is basically nothing there except national parks iirc).
