I also think you are a good choice since I think I one time remebered that you are a fan of basketball. I am placing trust that you'd know what your doing because I'm not really that into basketball and didn't take a lot of effort learning anything new about it before deciding to offer this position to you.

Come on guys :\ TL is our bastion, so I didn't have a problem with ppl ranting here, but honestly, too many ppl went out of their way to TOTALLY shit on their forums. Thanks to DREAM-JOY for at least trying to put it in a civil context.
If someone came into TL and started talking shit about Nony, I'm pretty sure we'd insta-ban his ass. Of course, we'd probably think "wtf nony is awesome" but that's probably how they think about sponsoring Toad. Sure, we think they're retarded, but they must have had some reasons. Also, their replies on their forums were VERY civil and understanding. I wonder if TL would react similarly.
Now, on the topic of convincing them not to sponsor this person because it would be bad for esports and Starcraft -- was shitting on their forum really the best way? What if someone came and shit on our forums all the time. There's always the option to step up the flame (which we're so good at) if they don't seem to respond in kind.
To be clear: I don't agree with what they're doing. I think sending out ToaD was a bad decision. It just reeks of a pure publicity stunt. The very least they could have done is just say that ToaD was a scout to begin with, or show some evidence of knowing what they're doing by admitting that ToaD hasn't been proven to be a good player.
I didn't shit on them by being bad manner. The worst thing I said was "this is a joke" ... I attacked them in a clear and logical manner. And the other bad thing I said is that it was totally unprofessional for an organization like FD to act like that.
A few people "flamed" them - but fuck it, FD deserved it.

frag domination? more like fag domination.

Frag Dominant did not send anyone to Korea nor were they planning to. The extent of their involvement was creating a "starcraft" section on their roster and adding the french kids name. They don't know anything about the starcraft scene and don't care. They don't want a successful and legitimate foray into the starcraft scene because the foreign starcraft scene is not profitable, period.
Some crazy french kid comes to them and says "hey look im in korea and I got 15-0 record iccup (pros play there!) let me start your sc division" and since it came at no cost and they have an interest in making a sc2 division since it actually makes financial sense, they said sure yeah whatever. The kid is essentially a fraud and their multigaming team is poorly run like most. It's all pretty lol worthy that they showed that much ignorance towards how pro starcraft works.
But what's funnier is people taking so much offense to it. Should they have come to you personally and asked your permission to do this or something?
Flaming them and taking personal offense over this while pretending you are somehow preserving the sanctity of professional starcraft is absurd. Go outside.
Who knows what kind of saddles-like humor could have stemmed from this, but you guys got all self righteous over starcraft at the perceived slight of a multigaming team not seeking your blessing before adding a starcraft roster. Given that they didn't send him to korea, they have done little more than start a shitty SC clan basically.
It's funny that this guy flew to korea and thinks he's going to accomplish anything. It is not an attack on your video game integrity or whatever you are going on about.
Also the people flaming them on their forums makes the SC community look like a bunch of idiots

How so?
When sports teams fuck up, what do people do? They go on the internet and they let loose. People care about their sports teams, and it offends them when their teams make mistakes. It's the EXACT same situation. Frag Dominant is a HUGE well known team, and they have a lot of fans, and the fact that they pulled some dumb shit like that warrants what they got.

Wow, dunno how I missed this for 2 days, but it all sounds pretty ridiculous. What were they thinking!

floor exercise,
Go away. You act like they weren't stupid. Large companys should protect their imagine by making informed decisions. If they don't they get burnt and they did. Now instead of sponsering a fraud they are sponsering nobody. Eitherway they wouldn't have stuck around long term since they started off getting fucked in the first place.
Damned if you do it badly and doubled damned if you get caught doing it badly.
|
floor exercise, the reason why we get so worked up is because they repeatedly failed to admit their stupidity and utter ignorace, constantly changing their mind as to what TaoD is or what his potential as a player is.
By marketing this nobody as their StarCraft "progamer" they could easily ruin the image of "foreigner" skill level, which has been getting better and better over the years. They're making a mockery of StarCraft e-sports.

I agree with Attackzerg and maybenexttime. There were other teams, which have joined the starcraft scene and look, they succeeded in doing so. Teams such as mTw, mYm now ESC, faculty, Speedlink, former Excello or eXpertise were able to pick up whole teams in starcraft without having prior knowledge or experience in starcraft. Although these teams do not focus on the Korean market, they most likely will transition to SC2, which is the main point here.
If you have a rather well known multi gaming organization like FD, it is a non-brainer to expect at least planning and understanding to some degree. I think they had no idea how the Korean gaming scene works and were just hoping to let things develop slowly and see where they're headed with ToaD as their advisor, scout, player or whatever he was supposed to be.
At least the community pointed out what FD failed to see and now FD is more knowledgeable than before, so at least this has some positive effects but it is very unfortunate to have missed the chance to get another multi gaming organization into starcraft. Still, it is not the community that is at fault here.
Anyway, I wish FD good luck for the future and if they ever try another endeavour into starcraft, better management skills.

God all this shit confused me so much.
I didn't know there was ToD and Toad.
That resulted in me thinking I was lied to for years and that ToD was never a top wc3 player.
God this shit is even more retarded than what I thought. It's not even the wc3 player they picked lol.
|
Schnake, not to mention Fnatic. They've made one decision: we're expanding into the StarCraft scene, and it was an excellent move for them. They currently have one of the strongest non-Korean teams in StarCraft.
What FD did was just pathetic. They were so ignorant of how huge StarCraft is or how it works in Korea and still are. What's more, their Vice President refuses to admit that (talking about ToaD's possible potential and such T____T).
|
hehe fnatic is THE strongest team outside of korea .....

So just curious.. does anyone even know what Toads actual skill level is? Sure, he hasnt been competing in any tournaments/whatever, but maybe he has a smurf account on iccup that is A- that no one knows about?? Its possible. If he did infact practice with Tod and Grubby on MYM or other teams, he must have a decent game sense and RTS skills (least moreso than IdrA has) so maybe in afew months, he could actually be competiting at a high level.
I highly doubt he was "signed" purely based off a single 15-0 iccup record.. He must have a B+/A- smurf account.
And one thing you guys are all missing/forgetting.. HE IS IN KOREA SOLELY FOR SCHOOL! FD didnt "SEND" him to Korea, He was already there.
If I moved to Korea for teaching english, I would definately try my best to join Courage and other league/pg things.. Does that mean Id be the next "foreigner hope"?? I just dont understand why you guys are getting so pissed at a dude that is ALREADY in korea, trying to see if he can play with the big boys..

I just don't see how you can hold these multigaming teams to some professional standard while condoning taking the time to register on their forums to flame and insult them. I do not disagree that they are stupid, and that it was a huge misstep. A multigaming team being fatally mismanaged comes as no surprise to me
I really don't see why people are taking offense or getting upset enough to do that sort of thing. When Artosis was joking about it it was funny, when people decided to go all internet jihad over it it made the SC community look just as dumb as them.

I agree that it was a huge misstep on Frag's part, but the cursing / flaming / immature war cries from us was unnecessary

He was only a huge fan and nothing else.
