FD also asked how much it would cost to rebrand and rename Teamliquid.net to something FD related. We opened the discussion at $1M, but that wasn't recieved well :X

I really don't get why everyone has so much rage about this. Calm the fuck down.

Honestly I think a lot of koreaphiles are jealous of the french kid I think. Honestly who cares if he calls himself a pro starcraft player on this awful multigaming teams dime

Or could it be the fact that this could have been a successful and legitimate foray into the StarCraft scene by a well-sponsored, well-recognized team but instead they decided to do it while trying to put absolutely no effort into it and made a mockery of not only everyone who aspires to maybe make it to the positions that IdrA or NonY have made it to, but also to any single person who takes this game seriously and has integrity about it?

Frag Dominant did not send anyone to Korea nor were they planning to. The extent of their involvement was creating a "starcraft" section on their roster and adding the french kids name. They don't know anything about the starcraft scene and don't care. They don't want a successful and legitimate foray into the starcraft scene because the foreign starcraft scene is not profitable, period.

Some crazy french kid comes to them and says "hey look im in korea and I got 15-0 record iccup (pros play there!) let me start your sc division" and since it came at no cost and they have an interest in making a sc2 division since it actually makes financial sense, they said sure yeah whatever. The kid is essentially a fraud and their multigaming team is poorly run like most. It's all pretty lol worthy that they showed that much ignorance towards how pro starcraft works.

But what's funnier is people taking so much offense to it. Should they have come to you personally and asked your permission to do this or something?

Flaming them and taking personal offense over this while pretending you are somehow preserving the sanctity of professional starcraft is absurd. Go outside.

Who knows what kind of saddles-like humor could have stemmed from this, but you guys got all self righteous over starcraft at the perceived slight of a multigaming team not seeking your blessing before adding a starcraft roster. Given that they didn't send him to korea, they have done little more than start a shitty SC clan basically.

It's funny that this guy flew to korea and thinks he's going to accomplish anything. It is not an attack on your video game integrity or whatever you are going on about.

Also the people flaming them on their forums makes the SC community look like a bunch of idiots

They said "with the support of our sponsors" - that means laying out money in one way or another. Please point out where I said that "they sent him over there". I said that this could've been a successful foray. Yes, they didn't send him over there, but they intended on helping him out financially which is an abomination.

First off, sorry if I am repeating anyone, but I don't think that FD saying they picked him up as a talent scout makes much sense either. To be an effective talent scout you really need to have intimate knowledge about all the aspects of the game. I'm only a C- player and I don't know half the timings in the game or what responses are best in every situation. I believe having understanding of the game is crucial to be able to tell if someone is good enough for your progaming team. From my perspective i might look at one player win a few games and say oh he is really good he should join my team. However, this player might have had some build order wins that i didnt know about, or the other player could have just made a mistake even though his play was more promising.

If you have good enough knowledge of the game to make recruiting choices for a pro team, i think its pretty reasonable that you should be able to get past D+ without abusing. However, this is just my opinion. As a low level player myself i dont think i would be able to do the job Toad thinks he can. And why not pick up someone from korea who is already established in the amateur scene there, since they are looking for korean talent anyways?

You guys are giving too much importance to the flames. This is the fucking internet, it's not SC fans who flame or TL members who flames. Everyone flames mindlessly, equally. They did some big shit, they get flamed. That will never change no matter what sport or what community you're treating.

That should be expected and they should taken that into consideration. If FD really gave up on SC because random internet people flamed them (which I doubt is the true reason), then it's only their fault for being stupid. Not our community's fault. But they most likely gave up once they got a better look of the big picture and realized they would need a much bigger investment then simply putting some random french fraud name in their website.

Like many people already pointed out. Many big multi-game teams already expanded into SC successfully (fnatic, mym, mtw..) simply because they did it right. FD failed because they suck, that is only their own fault and no one else's. The flaming from random internet users is part of the whole deal and by now they should have very well learned how to deal with it.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – February 03, 2008 – Frag Dominant, LLC, one of North America's leading eSports organizations, is pleased to announce the acquisition of Pierre-Jean "ToaD" Orgues, a professional Starcraft player from France.

Having worked as an on the scene reporter for organizations such as SK-Gaming and Meet Your Makers in the past, ToaD decided it was time to move from behind the scenes and step into the spotlight. Pierre, a 5 year veteran Starcraft player, will be moving to Seoul, Korea next week to attend university and live with his girlfriend. While in Korea, Pierre will be training with other professionals to advance his skills and prepare for future events. As many may or may not know, the Korean population considers Starcraft as a national sport; broadcasted on live television and viewed by millions of fans across the country. With the help of Frag Dominant and its loyal sponsors, ToaD will be traveling to a large list of venues in the 2009 circuit, and he will be the only local French professional gamer attending live events.

"I look forward to competing under the Frag Dominant brand in 2009; it's always been my dream to represent an awesome organization like FD," said Pierre-Jean "ToaD" Orgues. "I want to thank everyone who supported me along the way, and most of all, I would like to thank Yoan "ToD" Merlo. See you in Seoul! 안녕!"

They've since deleted their newspost about ToaD, but it's quoted above and clearly reveals they had absolutely no idea what they were doing when they originally hired him (not as a staff member, but as a "professional StarCraft player" to "attend live events" "in the 2009 circuit".

I'm baffled by how idiotic that original newspost was, or even the notion that ToaD could somehow let Frag Dominant "scout" the Korean SC scene. FD probably never expected the SC community to be this sensitive to news about "foreigners going to Korea" - perhaps they thought it wouldn't be a big deal to trump up this newspost. Obviously they made a mistake - previous posters (Sonuvbob) have pointed out how their ignorance is degrading to the SC community, and I agree.

However, it should also be said that whoever opened this (http://fragdominant.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=4464) topic at Frag Dominant is a disgrace to himself, TeamLiquid, and the StarCraft community in general. Get a clue, using aggressive and obscene language isn't the best way to point out someone else's mistakes - you end up making yourself look like more of an idiot than FD (and that is really tough).

You can flame if you want, just don't associate your flame with TL, as Mani pointed out

IMHO that isn't important as well. Don't get me wrong, I don't endorse flaming in any way, but I just think that random flaming from randoms in the internetz is just meaningless. If get to you and tell you:
"Hey mister StRyKeR, in the name of Blizzard and the Russian Federation, I think you're a pile of crap"

Do you hate Blizzard and the Russian Federation now? No, you just think I'm some random idiot posting crap in someone else's name. The only downside of those guys flaming them on their forums using TL name did, was that they stalled the whole process of getting the message across. If they were polite then FD would have understand the problem sooner and would have gave up sooner. That is all.

Wow, so much hate against this guy saying there are others who deserve it more. Hey, it's a freaking contract between this gaming company and him, it's not like a public charity or something where a rich guy gets paid instead of a poor guy. Or, did Idra deserve the progaming license more than any of those koreans who spend 12 hrs a day in a clan house? So don't talk about dedication or courage, this has nothing to do with that, it's just being in the right place in the right time. The most you can do is blame FD for being ignorant about the scene and the player itself.

I mean, what if FD or w/e came to you and payed you for staying in Korea and mingle with "the right people". Would you say: "No, I'm just D+ there are others who deserve it more!!"?

Time will tell whether it's all a big fail (most probably) or something interesting comes out, but there's no reason to feel so offended...

Uh.. yes i would say that? And if i didn't; I would be fine with expect other people to call me out for being a bitch..?
There's a HUGE reason to feel offended some trash player comes up and takes what should belong to people who've actually worked.
You present a rational, yet ignorant argument. at least TRY to play SC competitively and you will easily see why it's such a big deal.

Or, did Idra deserve the progaming license more than any of those koreans who spend 12 hrs a day in a clan house?

What do u know about Idra ? You his friend? you know everything about him right? , do you have any clue of what he sacrificed? Me neither, and likewise with you. (granted , it was indirectly through a metaphor), but don't talk shit about him? jesus

Ok first of all when did I talk shit about Idra? Read again and don't invent stuff please. Actually you are the one who called that french guy TRASH, do you know everything about him, are you his friend?

I was pointing out that telling who deserves what and who doesn't makes no sense, there are a lot of people that have worked hard to be good at starcraft, so does that mean we should make a ranking to tell who deserves it the most? It's just pointless, and even more pointless to get so mad about it. That french guy was lucky enough to get a contract with FD, that is all.
