Last time I checked this, there's usually ~20,000 people playing Starcraft, take away like ~5,000 people that ARE koreans 'cause some of them don't sleep, and you have a rough estimate of ~15,000 people.

Off topic, but if your including Korea you'd have to bring in all the ones playing on lans and private servers at any given time too.

And it's quite obvious, even if SC2 will suck in TL standards (competitive community standards, that is), it will still be more popular than DoW2

Seriously, people online playing, are just that...korean or not, it sums up to people playing. If anything, not including koreans will skew the results.(if 100,000 americans played it, instead of koreans....would the USA's population not be included in the debate?)

Are koreans people? Why are they not included? I don't get it. Also, if you are not allowed to include the korean audience, what country are they not including when looking at DoW? Seriously, people online playing, are just that...korean or not, it sums up to people playing. If anything, not including koreans will skew the results.(if 100,000 americans played it, instead of koreans....would the USA's population not be included in the debate?) One of the points I brought up was the fact that even after 10 years SC still has more players than DoW and someone mentioned that the number might be skewed by the S Korean population. I'm not really sure why the fact that many of the players are Korean matters but I wanted to prove that even without the Korean player base SC still trumps DoW hence my question. I totally agree with what you're saying, I just wanted to prove them wrong even under their own weird terms. A few other points brought up that made me cringe: About SC2: - The studio culture that produced Starcraft 1 is long gone so they probably won't understand what made the first so great. - Competitive games rarely please the competitive community throughout iterations of a franchise because the developers aren't competitive gamers. - No one "wins the lotto (a well balanced game) twice" - SC2 will be too close to SC1 which is old now. About SC1: - DoW is about map control while SC1 is not. You don't need to go contest resource points, you can just sit in your base unlike in DoW. - It takes too long to get to the action in SC1, DoW is much faster. - Most confrontations in SC1 were strictly scouting while DoW's system forced more fights. - You need to control far less of the map to survive in SC1 than in DoW. - If your opponent in DoW controls 75% of the map in the first 3 minutes you're going to lose without him even having to enter your base up until this point while you'd still be building works at a similar time in SC1. Now I don't want to paint a poor image of these guys I'm discussing this with, they're friends of mine and these aren't the only points they brought up and some of them certainly defended SC1 on certain topics. I also understand that they play with a very different mindset, they aren't the same kind of competitive players that we are or they haven't been exposed to high level SC1. The big over arching thing they mention is that DoW is more "fun" which obviously is more subjective. That said, I was engaging in this discussion with them because someone made the statement that SC2 probably will suck and they will have to totally rethink most of the game once DoW2 is released and "see where the genre should be going." That was the last straw for me and I had to speak up for SC. Thanks for the numbers guys!
