Me and my girlfriend are visiting New York in a couple of days and I was wondering where some great places were to visit (shopping, sight seeing)

I have enough restaurants in mind and I don't want to be told to visit the obvious tourist destinations (statue of liberty, chinatown etc.)

Please recommend me some nice places...I don't have a lot of cash to blow btw.

Oh and does anyone know how I can get to Newark Airport from Manhanttan? I heard subway doesn't travel to that airport..would I need to order a private shuttle? Can anyone help me with that too?

Hey man. I had this same problem about 4 months ago :D You should take a private shuttle, yes. Its the fastest way to get to manhattan and probably easiest. You just jump off the airport and there are people asking who's going to Manhattan, probably about 4 or 5 people will jump in the same shuttle as you. Ask the guards, they'll help you.
About places to visit... hmm.. this may already be on your list, but you should:
1. Go to Broadway to see a show
2. CENTRAL PARK. One of the best places i went at NY. Loved it. Would actually consider start being a bum just to live there
3. Go to a club to partayyy (dont remember the name of the one i went to.. but it was awesome)
4. Go the THE BLUE NOTE. It's a jazz place, one of the most famous ones ever. They always have gosus there playing. THIS you should do.
5. I wanted to go to Radio City to a concert, but i had no money left T-T
6. Get a hot dog at Grays Papaya. Seriously.

I'll try to remember the shopping places i went to, so I'll post again when i find the receipts

Newark is the closest to most places in Manhattan rather than LGA or JFK. I've always driven there with family because of luggage etc. I don't know how else to get there.

Bleh, blah, food, shopping, sightseeing.

Don't go to the upper east side (east side like 59-125) for food, its RIDICULOUSLY expensive.

for food, i have a couple of places. I'm from the city but my roomie in college, every break, makes me go restaurant hunting with him and we find the most awesome places. i'll start from Chinatown going up.

1) Chinatown
Joe's Shanghai - Maybe it's cause I'm from Shanghai and I miss my native food but this place is good! main reason? the shanghai dumplings. don't take my word for it though, there is always a huge line during lunch/dinner hours. If you want some GOOD/REAL chinese food, come here.
9 Pell St, New York 10013 (it's on bowery)

2) Soho
I don't really know any restaurants here but you should go just for the shopping. If you're leaving Chinatown, walk down Canal till yo hit Broadway and walk north. check out the side streets if you can cause there's interesting stuff there.

Actually, there's a very good gourmet pizza place called Lombardi's Pizzeria here that serves some of the best pies I've ever tasted.
32 Spring St.

3) St. Mark's
Come here for Japanese restaurants/food, it's also in the Village which is a pretty chill/interesting spot. Also, there's

4) Union Square
There's a place here called the Republic which served pan-asian food that i would recommend. it's right by the square so ask around, you'll see it.

5) 34th Street
Madison Square Garden, K-Town, Manhattan Mall, Macy's. Mad stuff here. In K-town there's a place called toudai which is an authentic Japan buffet that is really cheap for lunch (13? last time i checked)

6) Time Square
Aside from Time Square and the new Stairs there's two places here for food. One, is chicken and rice which is just a halal stand on 53rd and 6th which is THE BEST HALAL FOOD EVER. It's possible the only place open with delicious food at 3 in the morning and usually people out clubbing go here for some good good food. There's also an authentic Japanese ramen shop on 49th and broadway that is GREAT. my girlfriend and i use to go there all the time to eat and everything I return from college for breaks I try to make time to go there once to taste that ramen. It's as good as ramen from Japan (which i've tasted) Close by there's also Rockefeller Center with the HUGE Christmas tree and skating rink.

7) Central Park. Great place, so nice on a nice day.

8) Uptown
I'm going to group this all together cause I need to get back to studying for my finals tomorrow >_> but there's grey's papaya's and this place called Cornet's Pizza which sells the biggest slices for only 3 bucks? like i'm serious when i say big they are like 3 slices combined maybe. That's all i remember right now. Sorry for the emphasis on Asian food and Pizza, those are the only places me and my roomie have hit so far.

ALSO:

if you can, you could go to brooklyn for some junior's cheesecake (just google it) and visit park slope and downtown brooklyn

I'm fine with restaurants, I already got my list of restaurants set up

I'd like to add one thing to the last part, all the good food are there too. Also, with the recent financial troubles and finance companies' firing people, there are actually some places in the area that have dropped prices or kept restaurant week menus, etc. A better search for restaurants in that area may show a good option for a night out in a higher class restaurant, as it easily lends to walking down to Times Square (Or a 1 bus if you are lazy) after the meal, etc.

its dirty, its crowded, its rude
actually, if you into clubbin
u can catch a vibe at one of those nightclubs, but usually music is horrible. Its either Avalon or Crobar, everything else sucked beyond expectations

It's better, cheaper, friendlier, tastier, more spacious, has tvs with football, and has less foreigners.
