If you want a more indie and alternative sound that's where I think Japan excels a lot more than Korea. Korean modern music right now and has been for at least the past eight yrs more R&B/Hip Hop based. Of course each country will have its own pop elements. If you watch an episode of Inky Gayo or Music Bank you'll see more Davichi type sounding singers than Indie singers easily but there are some... YoZoh, The Melody...
South Korea's music scene has been rather stagnant for almost a decade now. I've come to accept this; Japan has a far greater music scene that South Korea if you're looking for deeper substance.
My absolute favorite performance of Davichi is the cover they did for the song titled Warning. It's hip hop style, not sure who the original artist is.
Such good vocals and amazing live singers And they can rap too
