We decided at one point that they were broken, and we did away with them. We've nerfed all the OP shit and we're running out of stuff to nerf. Instead of creating counterplay for broken builds, we just got rid of them outright.
Nothing is fun. There's nothing to convince people to stick around for a patch that is gonna play the exact same as a year or two ago but now everybody has worse tools.
I mean, I get where you're coming from as since the balance council took over the default response to a perceived problem is to simply nerf it, whereas actual interesting changes or new solutions have become much rarer. On the other hand, if one unit is nerfed it's technically a buff to every unit that is interacting with it so other units are are still 'buffed' in that sense.
