Not all coaches are the right fit for every type of job. Maybe his ideas will actually mesh well with this group of players, plus he does have a certain bit of bonus kudos with his reputation as a player.
Not really a prediction per se but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was a complete disaster, or a big success!
My only prediction for the season so far is that Chelsea are likely to struggle to do much. Maybe stretch to get the last Europa or a Conference place.
Not a dig at Maresca, I don’t see how any coach is meant to succeed with this mental transfer policy. There’s just so much turnover, so many players to keep happy with such a bloated squad I don’t know what they’re thinking.
It really fucked Potter over IMO, Poch took quite a while to shape things, and when it looked like he was finally getting to grips and there was promise going into a new season, they hit the reset button again.
I don’t like/hate Chelsea, Pande what are your thoughts on this? I’d find it bloody maddening! Conor Gallagher isn’t a world beater, but he’s a decent Prem player. Get 30 odd million for him to conform to financial rules and then go back to splurging on 50 wingers?
It feels like Boehly and his group are using the club to show off how smart they are in running a club differently to the orthodoxy, all the while showing there’s a reason why some of that orthodoxy exists.
Also as a neutral in such matters, I must say the early business between the folks who had to balance the books Was pretty blatantly dodgy and left a pretty sour taste for me. Yeah the transfer strategy is the biggest what the hell, in football and not even us fans understand where we are going. Right now we are going to end the window with Felix, Pedro Neto and Oshimen in, when our defence is (or has been so far) utter shambolic and nothing has been done to fix this. Up until signing Neto our balance was a profit for this transfer window btw, but with Felix and Oshimen to come in i feel like we will of course be back in our 150 million range, but we have a lot to sell still and many of those will be full profit so i can't bark at them on that front this summer at least. I am confused on the Connor situation, they offered him a 2 + 1 year deal and like x100 his wages to be on the 180k range with the big hitters (not sterling or lukaku they dont count, Reece James is the ball park here) and he rejected it and obviously the club will not want him to go for free next summer so sell him i get all this. I don't get how it got to this stage though and i am a bit confused, both sides are saying they wanted to stay and it ends with him leaving so that is sad. Every squad in world football challenging for a title needs a Connor Gallagher in there squad, but now the academy product has been replaced by Ugowuchu who has loooked good in pre season which is a shame, oh well The biggest isse i have right now though is the treatment of Chalobah, that guy last season was our 2nd best CB behind Silva and he hardly played because Poch is a clown and now is literally being forced out, another guy who is a great individual, no fuss and is Chelsea since he was like 10 and is being forced out by the guys above him, madness. We have too many players that are stealing a living with us at the moment like Disasi as our directors are terrible at scouting defenders, Disasi and Badiashile have been very very poor and combined they cost £70 million lol!! I am 50-50 about the season, much like Chelsea on the field, you are either going to see us score a lot of goals and win, or we will lose 3-0 and struggle to break a team down and get countered, so unless Enzo is a fast worker i can't see us competing, then can we pip spurs or yanited into 4th, maybe, but again going to be on them rather than us being better i would feel. Yeah lol about Gallagher.. what the hell is going on there? I just read he is going back to London after beeing called back by Chelsea? Yeah he is going to be really motivated to play for them rofl Atleti wanted to sell us there young striker, we didn't come to terms with him, rumour is medical fail and some are saying no medical fail, was contract terms/rights so he walked away from us i believe. Atletico get mad at this and then we say, well we can take Felix from u, but at this price and Atletico get mad again. We then say well Connor coming back to us then as you not buying him. Connor is coming back to train with reserves, not fault to the lad but he isn't "wanted" by the hierarchy so nothing else for him to do, same with Lukaku and Chalobah, i hate it (On Trev and Chalobah cases) but this is just standard business protocol, let alone football world. I actually think he might do well, but he needs a transfer window, aka next season. Van Dijk is 33 and Salah is 32, Trent also not signed a new deal yet. He needs to make his mark on the team which will come next summer, i think his football is more rounded and suited to the league than Klopp's. The way Klopp worked was "all or nothing" fast pace which can cause issues which have found Liverpool out for multiple title challenges, but also has seen them produce fantastic results but not consistently. Won the league > lost 7-0 to Villa, came close to winning league > struggled for top 4. It was never consistent. That isn't to say i bet any Liverpool fan would change anything, but, Slot plays with more control, less gung ho and more precision, it might and probably wont work this season as the stars are ageing, however it might work when he can bring some of his players in. It is not a high bar, but Slot is by far the best coach in Holland!
Not consistent may be a bit exaggerated. Mostly top 4 in the league. 3 CL finals and some "minor" titles. Every PL club besides Man City would take those results every day of the week I think

ESPN is reporting that Pocchetino is about to be announced as the new US men's manager
Bit of a surprise to me honestly but I guess it's a big coup for the US and easy money for Poch?

He might be the best but he needs to prove it. Taking him as coach is a gamble.

Just thought what slot did with that Feyernoord side, making the competitive in Europa league as well shows that his style and coaching is very good. Also i don't know who else would be better than him Dutch wise unless im missing someone.

Ok so we lost our striker Evanilson to Bournemouth for 40M.
He was very good 2y ago. Last year not so much as he faced a terrible amount of injuries and that limited his play time.
A gamble for them, decent money for our side....not as much as it could have been tho

Macca or Szoboslai as a 6 is a stupid idea... Either play Endo or buy someone to cover. But dont waste their creativity

Macca or Szoboslai as a 6 is a stupid idea... Either play Endo or buy someone to cover. But dont waste their creativity I'm guessing it's going to be a double pivot of Macca/Gravenberch with Szoboszlai higher up the pitch. From what I've seen, Slot's system is hybrid between a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-3-3 with one side of the double pivot slightly pushed higher.
If we want to remain defensively solid, I do think that Macca needs to play deeper since he's shown he can be the lone 6. Plus with Elliott and Szobo ahead of him, I actually don't mind it too much. Could also see Szobo be the 6 in the double pivot with Macca and Elliott playing the 10 role.
Endo is too slow and not good enough on the ball for Slot's system. Whereas in Klopp's system he played through the sides much more with diagonal long balls from Alisson, Trent, VVD, or Konate to get a switch up in play to one of the pacey wingers. Slot's system has them playing much more centrally with less reliance on as he says "high variance and high risk" balls over the top. So ball playing is very important which is why he's been shown to having Szobo or Gravenberch operate more in that 6/double pivot role and relying on Endo less. Endo looked rightfully awful in preseason because of that change in set up. He's more of an anticipation/reactionary DM. He's fine if the opponent isn't going to press him since he can find decent balls forward, but under pressure, he's just not good enough.

ITS BACK!!!
Premier league kick off is upon us, Yanited take on Fulham, who i tip to be a surprise package, however i do feel Yanited will win and i hope this season we see an actual identity from Ten Hag in playstyle, even if it is park the bus and counter, at least stick to that, instead of sometimes trying to do some weird press and play and then get picked off and lose big to random teams.

I so wish United comes back to the former glory days but I am a little bit less optimistic. Seems I made it in time into the fantasy league.

if liverpool wants to remain defensively solid you need a DEFENSIVE midfielder ^^ 8s dont work as 6s long term

Good question, i would say in modern football might be hard to find it, but then again, some teams are trying to move away from a pure 6 at least, even Arteta trying to make Rice into an 8 from a pure 6 he was at West Ham, which weird.
The other question is, how many Elite 6s are there? Rodri and who else?

Kante was surprisingly strong in the Euros. Rice is definitely elite. Vitinha for Portugal. Tchouameni and Camavinga at Real.
Bruno at Newcastle? Palacios at Leverkusen?
Other than that I cant think of others

Like i said with Rice though, Arsenal or more so Arteta is playing him as 8 now and they putting in Jorginho or someone to cover at 6 no?
But yeah in Euros, Kante was back to his best, but thats because International football is slow and Kante has had a holiday in middle east all season lol
Is Bruno a 6 or an 8 again?
Tchoumaeni and Camavina yeah they would fit that role very well.
