Surely that'd galvanize some of the bullshit trump peddles and make him a martyr. Obv there is no such evidence and these hackers can't release it because it doesn't exist, but that will be the narrative that this feeds.

President Joe Biden, who has had a productive working relationship with McConnell, said he was sorry to hear the news. “I’ve trusted him and we have a great relationship,” the Democratic president said. “We fight like hell. But he has never, never, never misrepresented anything.” Wonder if this is the kind of stuff he was saying to Obama while he was VP?

This kind of narrative will be pushed regardless of any circumstance, but I do think it's harmful if Trump is 'taken down' by foreign influence, as such a situation muddies the waters and means a wider group of conspiratists would be willing to believe it.

Agreed. I'd much rather have Trump lose the election due to more Americans suddenly realizing he shouldn't be president again, and therefore not voting for him in November.

And then considering all that we know and it hasn't disqualified him in the minds of people, would it? Or is it really that bad. Depends how you interpret 'could impact the election' tbh. It's a threat from a bad actor that apparently just wants money, so they'll be interested in claiming the information they stole is valuable. "Could impact your election" is a hostage threat on the level of "It might be your son we have hostage" except your son is digital so you can't verify they actually don't have your son. We on the outside don't know what they have or what they're asking for. I don't believe it's just 'stuff that makes trump look bad' that they have (if anything), because trump gives that away for free. For all we know, it could be data either real or manufactured that makes it look like dems are fabricating evidence for one of Trump's cases. 'could impact the election' is EXTREMELY vague. Also, Trump got away with not revealing his financials as president and that wasn't damning. He's also recently been charged of (correction - Kwark is right, sentenced for*)some big ol' fraud. I don't know what anyone could have at this point that would change the mind of diehard trump fans tbh.

Also the fine was mostly just handing back his ill gotten gains, it was imputed interest derived from the terms he got vs what he would have gotten had he not lied. That wasn’t the judge pulling hundreds of millions out of the air, the state’s expert presented the math on it and Trump’s legal team didn’t contest it.
