There are plenty of pros failing to make it into the tournaments, not to mention amateurs struggling through qualifiers. Players like Flash or Rain that just dominate everyone on the grounds of amazing macro make Brood War boring, their absence is hardly killing the game. Especially Rain, whose PvT is just pathetic to watch ー many of the games in the KSL finals weren't amazing... but it was an amazing finals. Why? Because the boring but super-successful player got trashed, the "underdog" won. On January 22 2020 04:38 TornadoSteve wrote: Sharp is over rated. A lot. His macro is pretty bad compared to most of the other pros, but he does so much with the units that he does build. Whether you call that overrated or not depends on what you prioritise, his results are very good but not amazing, but he's generally a treat to watch regardless.

As sad as I am to see Rain drop out, he has been competing pretty much non stop for what, a decade? Give the man a break. He has brought us some unreal pvp and really became the top protoss. It sucks that we won't get to see Bisu vs Rain pvp in asl 9, though. However, looking at liquipedia it seems that flash might actually play in this afterall, which is super awesome! Let's see if he can make it 5 ASLs! I like Rain, but he managed to win both ASL and KSL and he was too dominant in PvP. Good luck to him in his next adventures! So, is Flash really playing this after all the drama?

There is glory in winning a championship won by defeating such a formidable opponent, like Light had done. is he injured or something? or is it about interest? guy who made top 4 in 5 consecutives starleagues and ro8, ro4, 1st place, ro8 before that is definitely overhyped... idk how people even come up with sentiments like this^^

He has laughably large holes in his PvT, and so few people seem to acknowledge that that yes I feel comfortable calling him overhyped. I mean hell, Bisu was the same. Strong player, weak PvT but his good fundamentals often got him through games in that matchup anyway (this is long before the sexy double shuttle stuff). But I feel like people were more willing to acknowledge those flaws in Bisu's play than they are with Rain's. Or maybe it just feels like that because the Rain stuff is more recent. If I had the time I would go look up all his vT record in ASL/KSL and see just how impressive/unimpressive it is, but from what I recall he hasn't collected any big scalps there. Well, I do recall one series over Last he won, in mostly non-macro games/BO wins. I feel like we see a larger sample size of tournaments with him and he starts looking quite a bit less impressive because PvT emerges as a thorn in his side. But I guess that also depends on the results of the research I hint at above.

ASL ----------- Rain 0 - 1 Sea Rain 0 - 1 sSak Rain 0 - 1 Mong Rain 0 - 1 Sharp Rain 1 - 0 Sea Rain 1 - 0 Mind Rain 1 - 0 JyJ Rain 2 - 3 Last Rain 0 - 3 Flash KSL ------------ Rain 3 - 1 Light Rain 3 - 0 Leta Rain 3 - 4 Sharp Rain 3 - 1 Last Rain 3 - 1 Sharp Rain 2 - 4 Light So, nope. That's just not an impressive pedigree even before you take into account how skill-indicative the matches were (for example the 3-1 over Last showed he's good at picking builds more than anything else). He's at best 50% against decent Terrans. Tried to look up his sponmatch record and he seems to be removed from the website. Face it, ya boi got good vP and vZ game and coasted on it.

He's not on the level of Flash (or maybe even Bisu) imo. He's definitely the next best thing. Perhaps a demigod
