It's not gonna happen, as usual.

The voting stuff and everything else is fine. My only guess is they worry about world getting curb stomped and figure random gives better odds.

Make voting only available from the Blizzard Launcher, no need to have SC2 installed, but at least "own" it. Not the free2play version, if you dont own the game you should not be able to vote. The game is now 9 years old, pretty much everyone that still love this game owns it, I have only played it in 2010 but watch it since years. That would stop any bots, because they would have to buy sc2 for 15usd because they surely don't own the game, they probably dont even know what kind of game it is. And everyone else that still has not bought sc2 would support the game/developer by buying it..

Overall 0/10 wouldn't read again.

Presumably many new fans are almost exclusively drawn in by the eSports/streamer side of things and want to give the competitive game a shot. It was the entire point of going F2P in the first place, all restricting votes in this manner would do is drive a wedge between older fans and newer ones, and that’s rarely beneficial to any scene

So there is no protection from this abuse? We have this every year someone gaining votes by ppl that dont even know or watch the game. So basically right now everyone can "buy" votes, Harstem could have won the vote if he paid for it, I am sure there are some influencal ppl on Youtube that could have made a video for a few bucks. So the message from TL is, if you pay for votes its OK as long as we gain new accounts on the website. Maybe someone could even make a website and sell GSL vs WORLD votes, same as they do for Youtube likes etc.

My point was solely that most restrictions people have suggested would lock out at least some people who are fans or players of the game. When we want new people into the scene and want them to stay, any kind of ‘you’re not a real fan without x’ is a terrible idea and drives wedges into a community that really can’t afford to have them. For example the suggestion you should own a copy of Legacy, well the message that sends out is ‘we’ve been here longer we get a vote, you don’t unless you buy this product’ which is a pretty terrible message to send. I don’t even own a copy of Legacy come to think of it haha, my hiatus came before it went FtP.

Presumably it was chosen for being a decades old community site that has a special place in the history of the game(s)?
