The fact is: Serral won WCS beating TOP koreans on his way.. He's the best 2018 starcraft 2 player . END OF STORY. since the beginning of SC2 (at least), the main point has always been confronting foreigners on how they would perform in any GSL taeja suffered the main treatment also get over it guys, serral manhandled koreans even on korean soil (gsl vs the world)

Stats showed glimpses of resistance but I think Maru playing at his very best would have offered Serral more resistance - however, Maru chose to play his worst offline games of 2018 against $O$ so we didnt get the Serral Maru final. Looking ahead, I'm very excited about TaeJa and how good he already is and how great he has the potential to become for next BlizzCon.

Never saw a player more overhyped than Maru. :D Compared to what he achieved, I'd say even calling him bonjwa is underhype tbh Hum dunno, I post my thought about it earlier but I don't feel that so special. He has the perfect conditions while the scene is not at its best to say the least, no fresh blood, a lot of retirement or "disparition" (herO, Dream, Curious, Sacsri, Rain, Parting, Life and while I forgot a lot, it's already way easier without these guys playing competitely around), no gaming house or even team for a majority of his rivals in a format which favors preparation... Even without trolling I am not really impressed. It's a statistical absurdity to have someone achieve that. It probably won't happen ever again. Look at the time it took for a 2peat to be made again Statistics are hepful but it hides the specific conditions which helped maru achieving this feat. Actually soO with 4 final in a row in a more competitive scene and everyone in gaming house backed by a kespa team is a greater feat, well, that's what I think at least. As a big MKP fan, definitely no... Hell even Sniper and Seed won a GSL, my boy could not. Come on you don't place Seed, Roro and Sniper above MKP ? Even if you count the achievement done in gsl MKP is far above and more influencable. Those guys are a proof that actually winning a gsl does not necessarely mean that you're really one of the greatest to touch the game. Btw, you can think getting 4 second place in a more competitive environnement is a way better feat than winning 3 in a less one while you have a lot of major advantages over your opponents but well, agree to disagree :p Finally the idea of only remembering the winner is a bit naive and not very used in most sports contrary to popular belief. (In the world cup 1954 and 1974, which teams are the most revered and remembered? Surely not the winners) I made this comparaison with football cuz there is still this idea that a player who won a world cup is inherently better than all the ones who did not, in this case, Guivarch is way better than Di Stefano, Eusebio, Platini or Cruyff. Anyway, that becomes a bit pointless, no idea what serral's legacy will be but for sure it's great.

Team house brings advantage for proleague teamleague, but for individual league it doesn't matter much. Maru had teamhouse for a long time and only recently exploded. ByuN with good wrists ran circles around the entire korean scene without a team. soO 4 finals in a row is impressive but nowhere near as much as Maru 2018, no matter the difference in era.

Y'all are going to stop discrediting this man. Serral being able to ZvZ to the finals and ZvP to win isn't what I'd call the toughest path for him. Maru has exclusively only lost to protoss during the last six months, sOs/Stats/Classic are the only players to have eliminated him from anything. If they were both zerg I'd agree with you, but they aren't.

still, congratz to serral, that was really impressive, that game vs 2stargate phoenix where he lost 20drones, had 3 spores at every base and still sits at 76 drones, 10 ahead of the protoss at 8minutes makes ZvP just look imbalanced

Not that $O$ played poorly at all, he played very well - Maru just played extraordinarily awfully disasterously relative to how well he is capable of playing.

Its reasonable to assume his ZvT was his weakest matchup. Sure he hasn't lost since Maru 3-0'd him at wesg, but he hasn't played a terran close to that level either. Maru (and terrans and in general probably now) weakest MU is TvP. That's why I said he got a tougher bracket. He would have probably loved to TvT and TvZ his way to the final but it didn't happen.
