This is why people don't like Jeff Flake. Not because he's too principled, no. But because he's willing to jettison his principles to make himself feel good. If you are as conservative as Flake claims to be, how on this earth could you rationalize, not just staying home, but actively supporting someone who is opposed to you? "For the good of the country?" bs. Where is his righteous indignation at people outside his party? Later Flake, your name suits you. Because the other side is a fucking child molester... Child is not really an apt descriptor. When people say child, the first thing that comes to mind are not 16-17 year olds. In fact, I doubt it comes to mind for most people. I'm not a Moore fan (not by any coherent stretch), but let's also not start calling 16-17 year olds children. If somebody is a minor, they're a child to me. I thought the understanding is that child is equivalent to minor in this context. Perhaps that should be made more clear. The distinction between child and teenager is irrelevant in the eyes of the law. I'm assuming Wegandi is just playing internet libertarian bingo and wanted to show up with "actually it's called Hebephilia and it's totally different". At this point it's so overused that it's got its own copypasta.

Roy Moore is a scumbag, I wouldn't vote for him, and the Republican Party does whatever it has to do get votes (as would the Democrats in a comparable situation). They're all scumbags and I don't deny that.
But I'm also aware that 16 is legal in all of the countries (excluding UK) that the liberal posters here are from (or at least believe is a superior place for those in the US) so I'm getting a hell of a laugh out of the situation myself.

Go on a tour of the world as a man in your 40s hitting on 14-16 year old girls, see how that works out for you.

The indignation rings hollow when the heinous crime committed by your political enemy (in a foreign country) is one that's been legal in your country for decades without a whisper of protest.

Yeah Trump is reprehensible too I didn't vote for that one either.

How about a 14 year old?

That's still legal in Germany, Italy, and Portugal lol.

Yes this distinction between pedophilia and hebephilia is very important.

16 is not automatically legal in germany either, so i'm not sure what you're laughing about. Neither is it in austria btw.

And that's bullshit, at least for germany. No idea about the others.

The age of consent in Germany is 14, as long as a person over the age of 21 does not exploit a 14- to 15-year-old person's lack of capacity for sexual self-determination, in which case a conviction of an individual over the age of 21 requires a complaint from the younger individual; being over 21 and engaging in sexual relations with a minor of that age does not constitute an offense by itself.

Maybe you should explain that to the judge that judged our case that we had to go through because of my younger sister.
First of all, what you quoted there, made it quite clear that 16 is NOT automatically legal as you stated beforehand, second of all, here's the actual law.
https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/stgb/__182.html
This here is the important part.
"A person above 21, who exploits a person under 16 to:
1. do sexual stuff to her, or make her do sexual stuff to herself or 2. same but to a third person"
edit: jeez..
It's also misleading to say "that it's not an offense by itself". It is. It's just one that the state doesn't charge for. That changes as soon as the legal guardian does, which is what we did.

Cool, but there was no legal complaint from the victim in Moore's case so assuming it was consensual he still would have been in the clear in Deutschland.

The victim has fuck all to do with that. It's the legal guardians that have the right to complain, not the minor. How retarded would that even be, the kid doesn't know it's being (possibly) exploited, that's the whole point.

edit: distinct lack of discussion about Trump acknowledging Jerusalem though, or is it just so far back that i didn't see it?

On your edit not really Its just kinda one of those things trump would do and is now doing that the next president will change.
