People spectulate that the third Admiral might be based on Sonny Chiba, who is an actor from 70s just like other Admirals. He is master at martial arts and have movie called bullfighter, Ryokugyu means green bull as well. It makes lots of sense since Jinbei is the one who is going to fight him. Another candidate is Toshiro Mifune since he is possibly the biggest Japan movie star ever, his appearance might be based on him. People believe that no way Oda will pass him. I also expect him to be master at martial arts.

for example, if theyre admiral level in power why havent we seen them before. marineford is a war that they should have been present in and i dont want to believe oda didnt have the foresight to think of a way to make these characters not appear out of nowhere

He was likely part of some military force for some country under the world government's banner before that. It would be like if Pell was more powerful (and not just explosion-proof) and then he got drafted into service as a marine admiral.

Yeah it was kind of strange to see 2 Admirals pulled out of thin air by Oda, but it's to be expected. Admirals have to be human superweapons in the Marines and since we already saw all of the vice admirals and they weren't terribly impressive. And unless some of them went full shonen protagonist and powered up exponentially over the timeskip, there were literally no candidates within the Marines. It's still dumb in my opinion but that's just how battle mangas work.

He also ordered attacks on fellow marines during Enies Lobby buster call, so he would fit in with a Sakazuki led marines much better than some of the alternatives. Fujitora is interesting in his own right, but feels like an ass-pull along with Green Bull. Onigumo stepping up with a little power up would have felt more natural and helped turn the marines darker.

I absolutely love the introduction of the admirals/top tier characters(e.g. Katakuri) in general.

two admirals having a private duel managed to (without intending to) permanently split an island into two separate climates of magma and snow. admirals on their own have to be capable of absolute devastation to qualify i think!!
