Those two spells, whether in a Reno deck or straight giants deck, are so much fun, I played wild for the first time ever. I held out a really long time, and in fact, my feeling of 'standard matters more' has not changed, but when I get mage quests and don't happen to draft mage for arena, I am willing to play wild because it has stuff that made mage fun.

I try the free arena run. Get screwed by the draft. Only offered Druid, Shaman, Warrior. Only offered 3 minions that cost >= 6 mana in the entire draft, and one of those was up against the only Swipe I saw. End up with a bad deck and to make it worse get a bad draw in the first two games against opponents who have miraculous draws (my second opponent was a mage who played Arcanologist on turn 2 and turn 4, both times drawing a secret). Go 0-3. Arena is almost entirely luck.

Welcome to arena. Just drafted this 80.4 score mage deck! I challenge anyone to go above that and I even picked cards that wasnt the number 1 priority according to HearthArena such as Pyroblast, my 4´th Meteor and Mana Wyrm. Cards missing: -Arcane anomaly -Mana Wyrm -Babbling Book

"But what if you get weapon buff cards like Deadly Poison?" Less and less Rogues run those cards these days. I am on the edge of cutting my one-off copy of Envenom Weapon from my Malygos Rogue deck.

Go 0-3. Arena is almost entirely luck. Last week's run went 9-3 with a priest and this one was 1-3 as a mage (was offered no Flamestrike, no Fireball, no Firelands Portal, no Babbling Book, no Blizzard, no Volcanic Potion, no Meteor, no Primordial Glyph, no Water Elemental, 1 Frostbolt, 1 Mana Wyrm, and no legendaries at all). By HearthArena's ranking, I was offered 5 'great' cards, 10 'good' cards and 12 'terrible' cards, which includes some cards being in the same pick trio. My highest ranked cards were Twilight Flamecaller and Sunwalker (which I was given 2 of both). Arena is almost entirely luck.

First free Arena: Given the choice of Warlock, Warrior, and Hunter. So I pick Hunter (even though I loathe playing Hunter), get some decent early game, and when I drew it I mostly won, wound up 8-3 (including the free win). Felt fine. Second free Arena: Given the choice of Warlock, Warrior, and Priest. So I pick Priest, have a terrible draft consisting of no good two drops and barely any decent threes, but OK late game, so I scraped a few wins off people who also had no early drops. Finished 5-3. Bad taste in my mouth. Third free Arena: Given the choice of Warlock, Warrior, and Hunter. I refuse to choose. If the goal of this promotion was to encourage me to play Arena then it has utterly failed. Screw this. Edit: Went through with it after all, and wish I hadn't. Drafted the only 3 two-drops I saw, got no good 3's or 4's to follow up even if I managed to draw early game, and never had to chance to pick removal. Played only Paladins, Rogues, and Mages, all of whose card quality vastly surpassed my own, even at 2 losses. I was behind every game thanks to Rogue damage spells, Paladin buffs, and Mage anything, and the only wins I had were on the back of the Primordial Drake I was fortunate enough to last pick. All-in-all, fuck Arena.

Lost the first game to someone who got both Ysera and Alexstrasza (and I actually sat there with dragonfire potion in my hand :/ ). Ok, getting outdrafted happens. Lost the second game in a very close match to a hunter who topdecked the solution to my board. Ok, shit happens. Lost the third game to a vicious fledgling that I couldn't deal with. I finally drew a shadow word: pain two turns later and cast it... "that target is immune". It had adapted to be a 3/9 faerie dragon with windfury (and just kept adapting to be a bigger monstrosity). 0/3 with a deck I felt quite happy with

Dr. 3 carried me on my most recent arena run. I even go to buff then use Faceless Manipulator on him a few times ;-)
