A little bit of history
3 years ago Clubfan posted a very interesting thread in the forums titled "Liquipedia participating in SC2Improve Team League".In it he had the idea of gathering liquipedia editors and play as Team Liquipedia in the upcoming season of the SC2Improve Team League, seeing it was gonna have the new Division 3, a casual division for amateur teams with no money on the line. I was on board! It had been a while since I was on a team, and playing in a team league alongside my peers sounded exactly what I wanted.
There was a lot of interest, and many people joined in. After a poll to choose our team name and an excellent logo made by FUSE, LickyPiddy was born!
LickyPiddy at the SC2Improve Team League S3-S6
Our opening match happened September 14th 2014 against Clan MiC. There was excitement in the air as our first official match, we even made an official clan inside Starcraft II (look for the tag LPnet!). So, how did we perform?
Well, that's a bit of a bummer. But it's ok, it was only our first match. We can do better!
Nope, we cannot do better. We ended up losing every single match that season (except one where the other team forfeited its spot in the league). But it didn't matter because we were having a blast! Every game was fun. Every strategy was exciting. This is what Starcraft II should be, fun with friends.
We actually ended up playing for the next 3 seasons, and we were really bad at it. We lost every single match we played, except for 2:
Two all kills, one in season 5 by Inflicted and one in season 6 by myself. You have no idea how excited we were when we actually won our first match after 3 season of playing.
During these seasons most of our matches were casted by Clubfan and myself, and the VODs can still be found on Clubfan's youtube channel.
LickyPiddy+Live Report
At the end of 2016 Wardi announced a new season of his team league, now under a new name the WardiTV Team League, and of course I wanted LickyPiddy to join again. This was unfortunately not as straightforward as previous seasons. Lack of free time by many members of the team meant there were fewer people that could play, including our manager and team captain Clubfan. I still wanted to be in, so I took the reigns of the team and searched among our roster who can play. A few answered the call, but it was not enough. Luckily I was not the only one searching.
I quickly found someone else on the forums wanting to make another team to play: Ej and the live report guys. I get in contact with them, and a few members joined in. We had a team! Now I wanted a new name for the team, for we are not only made up of members of Liquipedia anymore. Ej said a name that I found perfect, and even made a small addition to the team logo, thus LickyPiddy+Live Report was born:
We had 8 players in the roster (4 from LickyPiddy and 4 from Live Report), and this was by far the best roster the team ever had. While previously in LickyPiddy we were plenty and we had fun, we were all mostly low league ranging from silver to only 1 master. This time all of us were diamond level at least (I was the lowest at diamond 3) and several master level players. This was improved when mid season when Seigifried from Rival Gaming joined (he is also a big liquipedia contributor). Playoffs was not a distant dream anymore.
We did lost our first match in the season with a score of 2-4, but it was the best start we ever had. We actually won our 2nd match. Most matches we played were a lot closer than before, and we won several games.
At the end of the season we didn't make the playoffs, but we did end up with a 5-5 record, the best we ever had.
This season I took more of a managing role, only playing 2 games the whole season, and let the better players do the hard work. I mostly did the coordination of the team and our weekly scheduled matches and a little bit of "PR" (wich was mostly tweet about the team games and results).
The future of LickyPiddy
Is LickyPiddy going to return for future leagues? I do not know. I personally like to play in future team leagues, and I think most of our current roster would like to play again. If that so, then yeah LickyPiddy will return. I even had the idea of pulling more people from all around the site and make a sort of Team Liquid Community team, but that idea may be too big, too far from the original team idea. At the very least I'll try to reform the roster for when a new season of Wardi's team league return.
Final thoughts and shoutouts
Being part of this have been fun. If you and a group of friends/colleagues have the time to play together in a team league, either Starcraft II or any other game, I highly recommend it. There is nothing like it.
Lastly I cannot end this without giving some shoutouts:
Clubfan for being the brain behind all of this, with his idea and execution and managing the team for 4 seasons.
Chapatiyaq for being our French representative and the 2nd player with more games played (I'm the 1st).
FO-nTTaX for also being a highly active member of the team during the early days.
Inflicted who gave us the first team kill and our first match victory.
hainrich and Knatterking because they gave me some of the most interesting games the team ever played.
Sjokola as our NL representative.
SuperHofmann our first master league player and who played a Dreamhack while under our name.
The Live Report guys: Durn, Ej_, and Elentos for giving the project another chance.
Seeker who also returned from the transition and did the casting for our most recent season. All fueled by pure passion for the game.
Seigifried who joined mid season just out of pure love for liquipedia.
FUSE for making such a good logo. He nailed it.
Wardi for making a team league for us to play in and also LickyPiddy's #1 fan.
And all the other people who played at least one game with us or signed up just out of pure interest for it.
