I actually believe Aligulac is more correct than any subjective opinion, except mine.

Bunny I don't think much needs to be said about INnoVation at this point. Maru has insane stats and had some really good runs. Sure, he lost to TY in WESG, but that's TY in TvT... I would favour TY any day... Dark has been the Zerg to go against the big Terran powerhouses and even win in a T favoured meta. TY - the legacy of Flash, I want you to win GSL this season! herO is not talked about much, but probably is the best P currently. soO is the other Zerg to consistently play well and he dominated in his GSL group (despite Tastosis hyping up Billowy). aLive... wtf aLive... that man just never goes away... ByuL looked better at the beginnig of the year, but still overall looks to be super-solid. The same applies to Stats but they can't share so I jut put him below ByuL because he doesn't have such an impressive chin. ByuN seems to have fallen off recently but still is one of the best around. I felt bad for excluding these players off the list so I put in an honorable mentions section. Classic just continues to impress me lately (apart from the IEM EU qualifiers - latency is a bitch). KeeN has been exceeding expectations from anyone and winning some huge series against great players. Solar too. Zest had a huge problem with PvT but it seems to be that he is getting back into shape. I can't wait to see eht he does next season. Bunny is killing it.

Dark still seemed to outclass the competition more than ByuL did, but the talk of ByuL actually being the #1 zerg is an interesting claim to follow up on. The big surprise to me was how insecure ByuN looked in the Ro32 in GSL. Even after his first match, which he won, he shook his head and looked utterly defeated. Also Zest not even making the cut comes as a bit of a shock. The other protosses have just made a better impression recently. [Edit]: Fixed wrong link for ByuL. Thanks for pointing that out

1. INnoVation Now that ByuN has abdicated the throne of Terran, it falls to his daisenpai to lead their people into the new meta. And lead he has. Since the latest patch, INnoVation has taken first place at Gyeonggi, carried his country to victory in NationWars, and decisively defeated Classic, herO, Stats, soO, ByuL, and Dark in at least one series. Of course, he is not without competition. Two other Terran titans, Maru and TY, have also risen to replace the fading ByuN. But even in such illustrious company, INnoVation is without peer. He has won more difficult tournaments (IEM vs WESG), played in more competitive matches (270 to Maru’s 104 and TY’s 61) and boasts a superior winrate (over 70% in all matchups) compared to both of his rivals. In testament to his unquestioned supremacy, INnoVation was forced to withdraw from the sixth week of the GSL king-of-the-hill tourney ‘The Loser Strikes Back’ yesterday morning, despite his status as the current champion. Because after even the mighty Dark failed to unseat him, the tournament organizers could not find anyone brave enough to challenge him for the title. The Machine bestrides the narrow world like a Colossus (except more Terran-y). And his petty challengers walk under his huge legs and peep about to find themselves dishonorable graves. 2. Dark The greatest of all Zerg, Dark shoulders the burden of leading the Swarm once again in 2017. Though he has not exactly covered himself in glory thus far, Dark has nonetheless put up very respectable results and his fearsome mechanics remain as sharp as ever. Putting that talent to use has earned him the distinction of being the only player capable of regularly taking on his former teammate INnoVation in a standard game–and winning. Strangely, he has for the most part declined to display his formidable prowess by participating in many of the smaller offline events patronized by his compatriots. Perhaps he feels his time is better spent preparing in secret for the larger offline tournaments, or he doesn’t believe the comparatively small prize pools are worth competing for. Whatever his reasons, Dark looms on the horizon as GSL and IEM approach, a formidable bulwark against any who would dare seek the trophy. Even the greatest of champions tread warily as their day wanes. For the night is Dark, and full of terrors. Composing such grandiloquent panegyrics is tedious as well as pretentious, so most of the rest are more succinct. 3. Maru A pretty good Terran, or so I hear. Also adorable. 4. TY Of all the people unhappy with the new year and new uncertainty in Starcraft, TY is not one of them. One of the easiest professional tournaments in his career turned into one of the hardest fights of his life–but rewarded him with one of the biggest windfalls of his time. Despite having seized his first championship on the international stage, TY has barely whetted his appetite and hunts restlessly for another chance at glory. Challengers beware. Those who fly too close to the Sun have a long way to fall. 5. herO[jOin] CJ_Entus-turned-ROOT_Gaming, herO has risen above his peers in this Protoss-unfriendly meta. His remarkable success against Terran while Stats, Zest, and Classic have floundered earn him this spot as first among the Firstborn. Don’t let the team fool you. He’s just a hero for fun. 6. ByuL Haven’t seen this dude since 2015. But they say he’s really killing it these days. 7. soO King of the Kongs, soO has risen far indeed, but never quite far enough. 2017 has begun with promise, but then again, so did 2014. And we all know how that turned out…. Oh my god! SoO has lost again! 8. Stats Very good, but not great. It’s impossible to deny that Stats is a highly skilled player. But you would never know it by looking at his trophy cabinet. Actually, forget the cabinet. He needs more than one trophy to display, or else he’ll just be drawing attention to those glaringly empty shelves. 9. ByuN The meteoric ascent of ByuN in late 2016 was heralded as the birth of a new star, a momentous occasion that defied all expectations and overcame all odds. After his fairytale back-to-back victories at GSL and Blizzcon, nobody doubted that ByuN was the greatest player in the world. Having ascended to the throne of Terran, he looked poised to sweep aside what feeble opposition remained and continue his glorious reign well into 2017. Then everything fell apart. Losing to Dark at IEM was acceptable, unsurprising even. A close series, a critical fungal, and he fell against an opponent that all agreed was the best Zerg around. Perfectly understandable, they said. Losing to Scarlett, losing to Scarlett again, was….less so. Cracks in ByuN’s reign sprang up, spurred on by a further smattering of online losses and the concurrent rise of three other would-be Terrain kings. His loyal legions of fans leapt to his defense, papering over the cracks in his reign, but an undercurrent of anxiety ran through the scene and the ByuN monarchy settled into an uneasy Terran Tetrarchy. With drops of his blood in the water and his supremacy in doubt, ByuN entered GSL ready to stamp out all dissent, to once again prove himself the undisputed king. Instead, tears joined the blood, and star of ByuN’s crusade through GSL imploded before it even ignited. A few days later, he lost to Nerchio in a prolonged series, and it seemed that the age of ByuN was well and truly over. But only a few days later, he successfully qualified for IEM Katowice and will be heading to Poland for a last shot at redemption. Can ByuN rise again? 10. Zest Zest is best? Not so much anymore. After being knocked out of GSL in the Ro32, the most handsome player seemed destined for a year of obscurity. His shaky performance against barely-known foreigners did little to contradict the predictions of gloom and doom. But Zest refused to fall so disgracefully. Clawing his way back, he demonstrated his revamped PvT online before seizing a spot at Katowice and squeezing onto the end of this list. The jury’s still out on whether he’ll deliver, but for now at least, Zest is best enough for #10. Just barely.
