I find in my games that it doesn't scale that well into late-game either, and my opponents don't transition out. Eventually 3/3 Mauraders just rolls that comp over.
Against muta/ling there's a window where I could have an advantage if I wasn't trash and try to win before Ultralisks come out, but against Roach/Hydra I can just chill...
comparatively anyway. Still trash so who cares.

It's only the Ro32. Only Myungsik wasn't code S level worthy... Classic is like top 16/8, aLive 24/16, Scarlett 32/24.

Totally saw this coming the day GSL moved her group for nationwars... This sucks

I stand by my original statement.

Scarlett played very well. Too bad she couldn't advance but she did herself proud.
I predicted Classic and aLive from the start. Classic is classic. He may not be the top form like in the past but he is still solid nonetheless. aLive is Terran so he has the edge already. It is great to see him doing well. Last year was tough for him. His father passed away and everything.
Myungsik was a great player. I love his cheesy style but clearly he didn't focus on SC2 enough. Lackluster performance. His spot should be someone else who is more passionate about SC2 like Patience.

Damn too bad :/ But hey maybe next season! It is always a shame when a player we all love doesn't make it but that's starcraft for you. Only the best of the best can make it in code s and you simply aren't on that lvl when playing mainly OW.
|
I stand by my original statement. If you call aLive and Scarlett Code B scrubs, what do you call Bunny, KeeN, Leenock, Ryung, and Trap? They qualified despite being not quite top-tier, but if they all belong in Code B, Afreeca might as well start Code S with the quarterfinals.
The best players are rare for a reason; if they were more common then they wouldn't be the best anymore. That's literally the definition of the word.

Couldn't this general feeling of "lower level" be simply because of LotV is just harder than any version before, so it requires higher level players for the games to look good?

It's hard to empirically measure difficulty, but it surely feels that way to me personally, both in game and watching.

Well yeah it's hard, we first would need to define what we mean exactly with "difficulty" tbh. (only the mechanical part?) Personally i don't think there is a difference tbh, you could argue that the need to expand faster makes it a bit "harder" because you are spread out more, but at the end of the day usually that means that other expansions aren't really "important" anymore. As i said, i think it's mostly PR talk. Would be interesting to explore that topic more though

same goes for balance.
race x gets screwed (e.g. overnerfed) for a long period and after a while ppl get used to race x getting wrecked and are convinced that top players of race y and z are, well, just better players and start seeing them as "legends" (especially fans of race y and z).
in case race x gets re-balanced, suddenly top race x players win stuff again and ppl go crazy like omg how can this be, top race x players win against top race y/z players who used to wreck race x players, omg nerf race x again. u get the point.

I don't think the game is much harder, yeah the bases mine out a little faster but that usually doesn't change anything in games that end before the 10 minute mark. TvZ is still bio/mine vs ling bane muta like in HotS, in some other matchups things have changed more but I don't see a reason to believe that it's much harder than before.
