Regardless of the situation, we will still action upon "dead game" comments. As this is a sensitive issue for SC2 fans, please do not come into this thread and talk about SC2 players switching over to BW. This thread is also not about bashing Blizzard, David Kim, or the WCS system. |

The scene only started declining when Blizz actually started implementing what the community asked for. So its really the community's fault.

When did the community at large ask for Koreans to be banned from every high profile international LAN? I sure as hell don't remember asking for that.
The first signs of decline happened when we went from 5 million WoL accounts (official numbers at the end of 2010) to less than 200K active players at the height of Brood Lord Infestor in 2012 before they nerfed it and HotS gave the game a shot in the arm. Need I remind you this was a period before Blizzard listened to any requests at all?

Oh right,
And the non-stop patching, rebalancing, Bunker build times, Barracks Build Times, Warp Gate research times etc... that was happening non-stop did not lead to that scene? The non-stop zerg complaint asking for anything and everything to be nerfed to oblivion was not happening at the time.
Selective memory is a bitch isn't it?

I have in principle nothing agaisnt discussing possible improvements and debating weaknesses of the game. thats what the forum is for But the sheer amount of people who kept insisting thay sc2 is terrible and only their super scientific game design will save it grew simply out of reasonable proportions. As a sc2 hardcore fan, i had a hell of a party for the last six years - the only bad part was that so many people came to this party to take a shit in the middle of the living room. I cant see how i can be blamed for not enjoying the feaces on my table....
Finally the "I TOLD YOU" attitude is just stupid, by telling us you helped exactly nothing, because the party ended anyway and the ending was not made happier by being forecast in advance
I am gonna keep playing until the servers are down or empty and kerp watching as long as there is something to watch. During all of that, I will cotinue to enjoy all the great things we have despite the vocal wishes of the "community'.

Maybe if from 10 games at least 4 ended up without huge lag and drops - and I'm counting vs AI here nonetheless - would have been better. To quote someone "when I stop having fun, I stop playing".
I have reinstalled LotV one week ago (for the last time) and 10 games ended up in 8 completely army loss without being able to click something. The LAN removal was one of the dumbest decisions ever, but I digress.
Fact is, SPL is dead. Even if staying on the shoulder of BW era, it wasn't enough. Tons of money, international tournaments (including lagged MLG, truly awful, even worse than GomTV at its lowest), and still nothing.
That is usually happening for any software (not especially games) when decisions are took by nontechnical persons, marketeers, agilists etc. This, plus the Blizzard-vs-KeSPA piss contest. Plus trying to make something shiny but still capitalizing on BW.
It's been tried. There is a reason tons of people still play Doom 1 and Quake 1 while Doom 3 is into oblivion, not to mention Quake 4 (a very good game).
It is playable. Immersive. Fun.
When a BW zealot attacked it made you tremble even when attacking ultras. Now it looks like a waiter carrying a latte.
Imagine that. (One of) the most iconic unit in Starcraft ending up as a mineral dump. If this is the end result of endless balancing, lag and mineral dump, then indeed was the last time. Maybe I will reinstall it some day just to make aberrations. At least they look awesome.

Well first they did nothing. And the community got mad because they were out of touch. So they did something, then the community got mad because they were meddling. So they went hands off, then the community got mad because balance. So they jumped back in. Then the community got mad that they were coddling casuals.
The conclusion from watching years of data suggests that the community has absolutely zero knowledge of what a good game is and should not be listened to at all for any advice when it comes to making a good game. Blizzard would have been better off patching for 2-3 months after release and just letting the community fix itself instead of the community only wanting fixes from ladder patches.
The game is dead in Korea because the community complained that too many koreans competed in the US and EU. Kespa is dead because of community influence. The korean scene is hurting because of community influence. The community is what is hurting everything about this game.

Maxing out and then clashing both armies in a single battle for a win or loss is players' choice, if you had fun with BW and it's 12-unit selection you shouldn't have any problems with multi-pronged attacks all over the map I think.

I posted those details not to whine, but to show they may care (I hope) about the user but they don't fix a critical flaw. And it's not only my ISP. Me and my friends played using 3 different ISPs with the same results. We use to argue all day about SC. Heck, we insulted each other using the respective races. And it was fun. Now not a single one plays anymore. Or at least watch streams. Because they had enough on spending money on lag.

Painters don't edit their work after the audience looks at it. Neither should developers. The reason Blizzard listened to the community was PR, nothing more. It was a bad idea and they should have just told the community that the map editor exists for a reason.

No I don't realize, it's not like I've lived on this beautiful Earth for longer than at least 90% of the people on this website, growing up in the Eastern Bloc in fairly austere conditions.
But if all you have to say is ad hominems and empty rhetoric then I'll leave you to your delusional Stockholm Syndrome ways and go have fun with a game where the developers don't piss in the faces of their most loyal fans for years.

Sheesh so much negativity wow
I'm happy for all the wonderful memories and good times this game has created. 6 years is a really good lifespan for a game. LoL and DOTA are just easier to get into and less stressful. I don't really think it would have made much of a difference if blizzard had done things differently. The WCS changes were dumb and it did accelerate the death of the korean scene and reduced frequency of tourneys. But even if blizzard hadn't done that, LoL and DOTA would have continued to dominate regardless.
I will watch blizzcon and enjoy tremendously.

You can keep going on and on about how the game is dead, but please don't.. enjoy it while you can, I know I will. And when one day planet Earth dies, hopefully we will have found other planets to go to and hopefully there will be a new RTS. This is the dumbest analogy I've ever seen. Please put more thought into your posts. Do you even realize how terrible your behaviour is? The condescending tone of this post would likely earn you a physical injury in real life. Maybe if you were an important figure with a track record, it could somewhat fly, but you are a complete nobody, yet you are asking people to "put more thought"? Did it never occur to you that maybe you should put more thought into how you deal with othet people? You are not superior to othet posters, stop acting like that. Like I'll be honest I understand some of you were not even alive or at best filling up diapers when we were enjoying the fuck out of Brood War, but try to understand at least. User was warned for this post "I'm older than you and faced more hardships, so your opinion is not that relevant" argument is one of the worst I've ever seen
Being older does not earn you any right to be condescending to others, put more thought into your posts
