This thread is for discussing recent bans. Don't discuss other topics here. Take it to website feedback if you disagree with a ban or want to raise an issue. Keep it civil.NOTE: For those of you who want to find the actual ABL thread where the bans are posted. Please look in here: https://tl.net/forum/closed-threads/ |

Weird, the post number just increased but I can't see anything. Someone shadowbanned must have tried to post.

On June 02 2016 05:48 KingofdaHipHop wrote: What's this shadowban stuff everyone is talking about First time I read about it in this thread, but it seems like it's a ban where you are not informed, and allowed to continue to post, and you can read everyone's posts, but only other shadow banned posters can read your posts. It's a really neat and kindof mean solution, as the poster still puts effort into posting , but then gets ignored, which is the worst fate for any poster.
Did I get that right?

You know, I've actually seen websites that have something like shadowbanning. Insta-downvotes and/or the website becomes obscenely laggy for that user. Kind of a tool used to ask someone to leave if the moderation doesn't have the backbone to actually ban people.

I think it is less about "the backbone to actually ban people", and more about the fact that if people are banned, they often just make new accounts and continue what they were doing, at least for a while. If you don't tell them they are banned, they don't.

If you don't tell them they are banned, they don't. Yeah, I feel a shadow ban is more severe than a normal ban in a way. Also they'll keep getting hits on the page and ads from ghosts, while you risk losing a user if you ban them. With a shadow ban, everyone wins. Except the user of course.
Real question is: Does TL have the backbone to introduce shadow bans?? Have they already?

I can think of several users that make me think that TL most definitely doesn't have shadowbans or that if it does they aren't put to good use.
