I've just experienced that feeling again when you westernize and realize you didn't grab a low tech vassal to feed before it finished.

I tried it and failed. Still decently happy with the result though since it was the first time I went for a world conquest and I got it. Was pretty close to a one tag as well. I made a couple of mistakes which cost me the one tag. I started integrating my vassals too late so I was left with Denmark as my vassal. The only way I could have still one tagged it was releasing them as a vassal and killing them like that but if I did that I was not sure if I would've had enough admin to make it a world conquest since I also had to thruce break on the last 2 countries. So instead of taking the gamble for a 1tag and not getting the world conquest I went for the achievement. I also took quantity waaay too late, I never realised how fucking good it is untill I took it. I was also quite unlucky that I got 4 long regencies which totally screwed up my thruce timers for the coalitions in Europe. It made it near impossible to expand in Europe untill late in the game. Development is pretty ridiculous in the late game though since almost all provinced in Europe had 30+ development. Constitutional government is the worst government form ever for big countries. Every seat gives you +WE cost and + stab cost. You don't really get the benefit either since you have so many seats which makes it impossible to win any vote. I changed back to absolute monarchy as fast as I could... Lastly I got a sick ruler who ruled from his 15th till his 72nd. edit: If the ruler afer that had good admin stats I might've gotten the one tag as well but nothing you can do about it =/. He only had 2 admin.

For my first WC, which nation is the best? I'm trying to decide between Castile, Austria, France, and the Ottomans. Leaning towards Castile because of the free integration which allows you to grow massively into expensive areas (italy, North Africa)

Leaning towards Castile because of the free integration which allows you to grow massively into expensive areas (italy, North Africa) I can't recommend Castile for a WC. The first years as them are atrocious. You have a hard time to get reasonable alliances, and there is no cost effective way to expand early. The north african provinces are a waste of admin points and basically dragyou down massively if you go into that direction. Portugal is a good ally, but you want to ideally kill him as fast as possible to stop him from colonizing. Aragon hates your guts and you don't want to waste a war on them to get them for free with the iberian wedding. England is a terrible enemy due to the naval dominance it has. And you have to take the war to France as you won't reach england if you don't. And all those provinces are stupid expensive + the HRE is right next to you, so you can't take much in peacedeals or they will coalition you. And at the start, all of your neighbours have better generals then you, so every war is really really expensive. Also, there are a ton of really bad events to fire as well to slow you further down. The start is really really painful.

It seems like sometimes the AI wants to do something, if it then can't do that it just deadlocks and trys again and again until the day it finally decides to do something else because its priorities changed.

Love mending the great schism after restoring the pentarchy. I think ET mod introduced it as a holdover from CK2, it's a really nice sucker punch to the papacy-disabled catholic region.
