Once you've lost ironman to this it cannot be restored. i definitly did this. it happened mid play. I formed HRE, did my tedious micro managment if organizing my troops, forts, colonies and such, then clicked save game (out of habit) when i was done with that. The standard save game window pops up and asks me to name my savestate. closed that window again to let the game autosave on 1st of the month, which it did, so i thought i´m fine. turns it the autosave was a yearly one and now i am left with a ironman-less autosavestate...

I've been trying to take Japan while slowly compromising the Ming but I haven't found a way to beat the Ming yet. Is it possible to take on the Manchu from the beginning?

Is it possible to take on the Manchu from the beginning? It was a while since, but I played an ironman game as Korea on (I think) the Art of War patch. I remember that I played very defensively vs. Japan and instead focused on the Asian mainland. I think my strategy in that game was to ally Ming early on (and eventually Buryatia) and use that as a tool to win wars vs the Machurian nations and Korchin. Then I proceeded to taking advantage of Ming imploding to get their lands. After that point I remember that I had some back-and-forth wars with Oirat while being in general on the defensive side, mostly since Russia had arrived and Russias opinion of me switch back-and-forth quite a bit

I thought that I could use my superior navy to really break apart Japan by using the Osaka choke-hold. This part of the world seems to be a bit more difficult than I originally thought.

Since I also did a game as Japan (where I was able to get a hand on Korea and a bit of (present day) China) I'd say it depends. If I had to say something, it is easier to focus on the Asian mainland but this depends on things like your current situation, what allies you and your enemies currently have and so on After a daimyo-independence war Japan will most likely be rather weak because those wars will cost lots of manpower from my experience. But on the other hand you will need a rather strong navy if you're going to initiate a war on Japan.

My friend told me it was possible to create a big enough distraction on the Shikoku Island then pull out and trap a large force on the island. I usually can get a good navy lead so I can blockade those units on that Island while taking out chunks of the mainland Japan. Is that strategy still viable?

If I remember correctly it was said it was there beacuse "one of the beta testers was a marine and thought that there should have been a tripoli state about that time".
