Little by little, rifts can form, with the resulting chasms slowly swallowing more and more of the world within their gaping openings. Many such encounters with these scars rightly impart the sense of fear, a fear that everything can fall apart and disappear into the vast abyss. With a simple quake, or an imperfection in a foundation, even towering colossi can crumble. Yet, cracks can be satisfying, relieving, or even a cause to salivate—a crack of light at the end of a tunnel, the feeling of knuckles cracking, or even the sound of a cracking egg. For simple Onegu, a farmer whose only day to day duties involved tilling the earth, managing his chickens, and fetching stream water, thoughts of such phenomena were fleeting at best. As he woke up this morning, however, that would change. Onegu the farmer will forever onward see the crack of dawn through his cracked window, hearing only his own skull cracking open.
