I finally reached my ( first ) goal in dota 2. i have been at 3999 MMR ( GABEN PLEASE ) twice now and i finally crossed over to the other side.
So a little background, i'm 33 year old dude, wife and all that stuff normal people have at that age you know. I started casually playing dota 2 after TI3, and a bit more active after TI4. After 1.5K games on my first account ( mostly party unranked and maybe like 400 ranked ) i was at 3K mmr and i wasn't happy with it, i wanted to improve.
So i decided to start a new account to give it a fresh feel. After about 180 unranked games i calibrated at 3.5K mmr. Now about another 180 soloQ games further down the road, i'm 4K
i can officially say bye to the 3K scrubs and say hello to the 4K scrubs
my dotabuff in case someone is interested http://www.dotabuff.com/players/143182978/matches

Welcome to 4k trash club!
A week from now, you'll wish you were 3.5k again. Everyone here thinks they're Ferrari.

Congrats!
How'd you manage to convince your wife to let you play 1.5k games? For me, that's the much bigger acheivement.

simple, gaming has always been my hobby, so she knew what she was getting into. I don't enjoy watching TV so if she wants to watch TV, i'll go play games. If they don't accept that, then that's BS :D. If she wants to spend time together we go do stuff together and we do things we both enjoy

Congrats man!
I have a party mmr of 3500 over 1200 games. Just yesterday I finished my first 10 solo ranked games to get placed at 3500. Can't wait to journey towards 4k.
If you have any advice it'd be greatly appreciated . I enjoy/usually play support, I've transitioned into cores a bit more. I don't play hardcarry. I love heroes with utility.

Find hero's you enjoy playing, and play them alot, i have only 3 hero's mid that i play really well, and two carries that i pick, which would be TA, Lina and SF for mid, Slark and Sven for carry.
Important to know that in this bracket, it doesn't matter too much what you pick, as long as you know how to get more farm then your counterpart. With all of my mid hero's i outfarm my opponent mid by at least 150 GPM every single game, then i go leverage that into ganking with 1-2 core items.
For support, i'm not that much of a support player so can't help you with that. I do know that supports that don't die, are usually the supports that do well with items and big plays. So pay attention to not give up your life unless there is an objective that your team can take right after your death like rosh or towers.
