Original Enlgish annoucement: http://wcs.battle.net/sc2/en/articles/wcs-and-copa-america-joining-forces-for-ultimate-latin-american-league
Copa América 2015 has been oficially announced, and in a similar way to the Chinese GPL, Copa América will feed directly into the WCS system.
There will be 3 seasons this year, followed by an offline Grand Finals. Each season will consist of 16 players, all from Latin America only (no more US and Canada like last year). Round of 16 is a group stage, followed by an 8 player single elimination bracket where the top2 will join the 2 previous WCS Premier latin american players to make the new WCS Challenger. The 4 players will then play a single elimination bracket for the two Premier League seeds and the title of Copa América champion!
StarCraft II Copa América and WCS Challenger Combined Prize Pool
1st place: 4,800$, 100 WCS points (premier seed) and 15 Copa América points. 2nd place: 4,600$, 100 WCS points (premier seed) and 12 Copa América points. 3rd place: 2,100$, 50 WCS points, 10 CA points 4th place: 2,000$, 50 WCS points, 8 CA points 5-8th: 7 CA points 9-12th: 6 CA points 13-16th: 5 CA points
StarCraft II Copa América Grand Finals Prize Pool

Now major has a chance in WCS.

BasetradeTV has cast every season so far I think. Would be classy by Copa America if they kept them on as main casters for the show.

I hope that Copa America 2016 gives a similar level of WCS points as a tier 1 WCS event.

That's pretty hard, because part of the things needed for being a WCS event to be open to everyone, and Copa América has always been a pretty regionalized tournament.

Yay for Copa America! The LatAm scene has always needed some love, and this is a good start.

Totally unrealistic goal. A T1 Global event needs US$ 75k prize pool and there was not nearly enough audience last year to justify the investment. Even the 25000 for a T2 would be crazy IMO.

Major winning every season? Lol
But cool to see this happening! Glad to see Latin and South America getting love. Maybe this will be the return of Fenix, who was on IM, technically, for a while before his hiatus

Meh, Major is not that good.

I lol'd...
I agree, but why is this a worthwhile statement? Especially in a topic such as this one? MajOr is not one of the best players in the world, but he still went undefeated in all of Copa America 2013 and all of Copa America 2014. Being a random guy from Chile dissing MajOr in a Copa America topic is questionable.
Anyways, this is awesome news. I've been waiting for Copa America to be added to the WCS system. Very happy now.

Um, will these wrap up in time for Blizzcon? The rest are starting their second season.

I really don't know of any Latin or South American player who actually puts up results and has a somewhat name for himself other than Major. He fluctuates in his results and sometimes is a damn good Terran and other times, people wonder wtf he's doing, but there's no denying his ability at SC2.

This, like GPL becoming WCS China, was one of those "why was it not like this from the beginning?" moments.

They may be a few years late, but at least they are hurrying up.
I think this is good news. I hope this kind of structure, with regional qualifiers, becomes more pronounced in the future too. What I don't get is that KR has two parallel tournaments to the WCS, but that is a different story.

You dont see latin americans pullin results because there's little support for tournaments or from sponsors, so its great that blizzard is doing this. Plus there is a lot more to consider since buying the game is a lot of money for a latin american when you get like 200$ a month with a full job. For example in my country minimun pay for a month worth of work is equivalent to 25$ (lets say u work at a fast food place or what ever) so its HARD to pay a 40$ game for most of us even more if you are young you just cant afford that. And if you buy the game u have to deal with latensy and stuff so yeah its hard and if you see a latin guy in WCS is something. I think it was on Wings of Liberty that a chilean guy name Killer got to round of 8 of blizzcon, thats the most. So kuddos to blizzard for helping the latin scene. Peru has like a big scene in LoL, Venezuela tents to grow super fast back in WCG days I remember how good it was until LG stop sponsor for WCG so this is most needed

So like, yet another region that gets an easier pass into Premier?

Why would you want an event featuring the best players of a region that is by far not the best at SC2, to give the same amount of WCS points as an event which features 16 top Koreans? Oo
