No, you're definitely not alone in feeling that way about Daigo. I don't actually root against him, but I'm no longer sitting on the edge of my seat hoping he takes the win. Evil Ryu is the "I'm going to pick a higher tier character because I want to win" move, while people love the "I'm going to be a character loyalist and have some fun with it" players.
That said, it's completely unfair of me. =P It's a tournament with prize money, they pick what they need to and play how they need to in order to win. I respect that attitude more than character loyalty, but some of the passion is just kinda lost.

Both those matches were on stream and pretty great. That Daigo/Smug match did not disappoint. Hopefully they run it back in a salty suite.

Uaagh, so many favorite players falling early. This is both really hype and really awkward for me.
Freaking great and entertaining tournament despite some minor technical/sound issues.
