I understand DA2 wasn't perfect and I actually agreed with many of your criticisms of the game. However, j still enjoyed it and even though they messed up a few things after origins, I think they did some things better in DA2. Some of the fighting was better. Couldn't mass health poultice , and I liked the way the fights were more interesting with enemy reinforcements jumping from the roofs of buildings and such. These are a few aspects that I liked better from the DA2 fighting. I still enjoyed origins fighting better as it was more tactical and less flashy.
DA2 also introduced really interesting companions such as varric and Anders, and I really enjoyed all the companions in this game. In da:o I only really cared for morrigan and Alistair.
I liked origins better. I think my biggest criticism of da2 is the inventory screen and not being able to change a companions armor. I also hated the class system of weapons and armor compared to da:o.
overall da2 has it's highs and lows and at the end of the day I really enjoyed the game. I think the hate was greatly exaggerated. Sorry if this is nonsensical, its hard for me to write on my smart phone.

It's a shame the pressure on developing companies is so high that it needs such a shitstorm, so they take their time to develop a good game in first place... =/ (See BF4 squeez out after BF3..., or Gothic 3...urghs...)

Lol, Gothic 3 is my personal favourite. That game on release was unplayable and pretty bad. I still haven't finished that game I believe. And I really fucking loved Gothic 1 & 2!
|
Yeah, in the end I guess it's for the better. So excited for the next chapter. Will likely start playing tomorrow.

I think EA learned its lesson after nearly burning out Bioware on Star Wars TOR, ME3 and DA2. They lost a lot of talent during that process and companies are starting to realize that slamming shit out does not result talented people staying.
Notice how this is the first game was have seen since 2012. It’s a bummer it happened to games we liked, but at least they are giving the studio the time in needs now, rather than trying to go full Ubisoft and slam shit out every year. Hopefully the sales back up this plan and they don’t feel the need to speed up the process.

First user reviews on metacritic are disappointing, very unsure if im going to buy it when it comes out the 20th.

I want this game to be awesome, but man am I nervous about buying it. I thought the second one was awful. Like the first part of the Game was great, and then you start to realize all the conversations, levels, and fights were recycled a thousand times while they killed the story aspects.
They didn't even like recolor the second games maps, you just ran around the same courtyard. They also killed the sandbox nature of the first, and got rid of all the side quests and stuft to do.
I'm still pissed off I spent money on that garbage.
There is a lot of potential here, but I'm too scared to get burned. Waiting on the game to be tried and well played before I even touch it.
|
Reading about it on rpgcodex is at least very funny :p Oh boy do they hate bioware.
I'm still very skeptical that this is anything more than an action RPG with pointless side quests, no consequences for actions/choices, little character customization, awkward romances, bland characters, average fantasy story.
Still holding my money.

From what I read the main issues are:
1. Steep PC hardware requirements, which is expected of a Frostbite 3 engines. 2. Buggy game (which can be said about DA:O and pre-patches DA2 with game breaking bugs as well). 3. Bad mouse/keyboard control which is my main concern here. Probably something that can be patched, but because of the bad moddability of Frostbite 3 I guess we stuck here with it.
I want to get it, but i'm affraid my PC won't handle it.
|
Yeah, my PC can run Far Cry 3 and 4 with no issues, so I am sure I can run it as a reasonable rate and not have it look like ass. But the people were hoping to run it on the DAO hardware might be super bummed out.
|
Just dont read Metacritic user reviews! It has become a place for elitist jerks to cry about anything and everything that was hyped before and did not fullfill there needs to 100%. Find yourself a handful of review sites that you agree on the most and find the game reviews there!
!!! METACRITIC USER REVIEWS ARE NOT RELEVANT ANYMORE !!!

I want to get it, but i'm affraid my PC won't handle it. Yeah the third point which I bolded is probably the only thing that worries me a little. But I guess it will be manageable after a while, just gotta get used to it even if it isn't very good at first (or at all). There are a lot of people that have fun with the game, so I'm not overly worried.
Also, bad moddability? That's sad given I loved mods for DAO and also Skyrim which has pretty good graphics too (especially modded).

Sadly I didn't play Broodwar seriously so I don't have experience in combating a clunky interface, but probably I will get used to it.
|
My biggest issue with this game is how horribly the UI and keybinds are. Having to hold a key to autoattack (err, guess should have used the word "default attack"), having to spam a key to highlight items on the screen, and the item/shop menus just feel lacking.
Also do not really like the "ring" around a character which show its stamina/mana bar. I much prefer the traditional double bar interface.
Oh, I also wish there can be a smaller interface, everything takes up so much space.
Not being able to select multiple party members at the same time can be quite a bit of a pain too (such as if yo want your tank to remain still while your dps's work on the ranged targets).
Your party AI can be horribly dumb. If you play with friendly fire on, then it pretty much means you have to manually control all 4 of your party members
This game is like a beautiful piece of music, but there is this vuvuzela buzzing in the middle of the orchestra which hinders my enjoyment.

I think of this wait for eu release as americans beta testing the game for me, thanks guys.
Also metacritic user reviews are quite good for niche games like JRPG's and simulators but a clusterfuck for triple-a games.
Reviews of niche games are the exact opposite of the triple-a reviews where critics praise and players bash the games. And chances are if other users praise a game from genre you generally enjoy it's going to hit the sweet spot for you too even if critics score it below average.
Take Nier for example.

So i hope someone smarter than me can clarify what im about to post here, calling Cyro! http://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/2mlt1z/denuvo_drm_used_for_lords_of_the_fallen_dragon/
Apparently the Denuvo DRM is harmful to hardrives. This is the original article translated from Russian. https://translate.google.it/translate?hl=it&sl=ru&tl=en&u=http://gamemag.ru/news/drm-zashchita-dragon-ageinquisition-denuvo-antitamper-ubivaet-ssdhdd-101753
an excerpt "Want to know how many times the average of the code LoF.exe being transferred from HDD to memory and back in one hour? 150000 retry copying records. This is 10,000 times greater than normal. DRM continuously decodes the game code into memory and encrypts obratno.Eto one of the most idiotic use of encryption techniques, which I have ever seen. Despite the fact that the small pieces of code (maximum steam kilobytes per entry), are stored in one memory block. Playing the game for 4-8 hours (depending on the quality SSD) means that the unit can bye c forever. "
If this is true, im asking for a refund instantly, i doubt ill get one, but i will still try.
Edit: hell im just going to the tech section of TL and posting and hopefully Cyro or some of the other smart guys can shed some light, im honestly terrified of playing the game now lol.

I've found someone making a LP of the game while mocking it. Some of it deserved some closer to whining. Still I found it funny. He hates on the game a lot so watch only if you're okay with that.

I also switched to a controller, and life is much better for it, too bad tho.
