One month ago today I called 911 and my roommate was carried out of the house on a stretcher. Since then I've discussed the situation a lot with my remaining roommate (codename Holly). In hindsight some of his stranger actions make more sense: for example he was almost certainly in a (drug-induced?) stupor when he stole Holly's ice cream. Occasionally news of his condition has trickled down to us through our landlord. The landlord of course was not happy about the events of October 5th, and gave Jay notice that October would be his last month living here. Unnecessarily, as it turns out, since as of last report he is still in a coma. Yesterday his seedy friend and mother came by the house to collect his things. I can't imagine that was very fun, as there was some blood and discarded medical equipment in his room. I wasn't there to witness the pickup, but heard Holly's report. And that's that. Jay has been excised from our lives. The final status is that he's been in a coma for a month, had a breathing tube for awhile but now they've removed it and he has pneumonia. I cannot help but wonder if he would have been greatly helped if he arrived in the hospital a few hours earlier. I don't feel guilty: I acted as well as any person could be expected, but I still ponder if I could have done better. We won't hear any more. Unfortunately it seems this story will have no proper

Can only speculate. I've never heard of being in a one month coma from street drug overdose. Possibly painkillers?

OP, I think you did the best you could tbh. I mean, you couldn't have known that something happened earlier. Some of the signs like him asking the questions he did (you mentioned them in last blog) could've been red flags that he was off but still wouldn't be able to tell if he overdosed on something. Is it a medically induced coma? 1 month medically induced coma sounds excessive though I dunno how long those things go on for (always figured short term). Depending on what he overdosed on, after a certain time, the damage is done. An an example, if you overdose on tylenol (aka more than 4g a day), you should try to get treatment within 8 hours otherwise its less effective.
