since the last hellbat patch I started playing mech a lot more, and now I've been trying to incorporate the new widow mine into my compositions aswell. And I've made some useful discoveries:
- it seems to be very useful as a backup unit in both TvP and TvZ ("oh shit I lost most of my tanks, i have 5 factories let's produce 9 widow mines at a time to stave off this counter attack")
- It also seems to be very useful to punish weaknesses from your opponent ("oh look that protoss is going greedy 3 base airtoss since he scouted mech. Let's make 20 widow mines and roll that sucka'")
- And it seems to be a very useful support unit in the midgame when your tank count isn't high enough yet. I've even managed to pull off some glorious hellion/widow mine composition to harrass while building up your thor/tank count back at home.
Granted, I am very very far from any decent level of play but it is so much fun to finally be able to punish someone when they're being greedy or to not insta-lose when you screw up once.
Since you guys and girls are probably a lot better than i am, i'm curious as to what uses you guys have found for the new widow mine!
P.S I don't really care if this works or not on korean levels, it probably doesn't work anyway. Just tell us all your stories of new discovery!
I find the new widow mine really helpful when you do a 3rax - factory push agaisnt zerg. Especially considering the recent hellbat patch.
The biggest counter of this push being mutalisks, if you do enough marines and if they don't get rollstomped by banelings, the mines will help them to kill the mutas.
I mostly use them in medivacs drops and to buy time against air switches. Sometimes to cutt of flanks as well.
But HTOMario uses mass widow mines with with mass tanks in TvP. I never thought that would work at GM level but obviously it does. It is like watching speed chess with the explosions. I hope some Koreans pick this up, would love to watch this in GSL instead of MMMVG.
